Why anyone would be surprised about the setter position shake up is beyond me. Karch has already gone on record saying that we had a problem at the setting position last year. It was pretty obvious who that was. Didn't USAV name Lloyd player of the year (well, co-POY with Foluke)?

And my memory was that she played well that year. The previous post was conflating Karch saying our setting needs to be better (happened in 2018) with Lloyd being named player of the year (in 2017).

I'm going to try to be somewhat realistic in my "ideal" in that I don't think elite players still in college 1) will necessarily translate to playing at an elite level internationally especially right away and 2) it just isn't how the NCAA-NT pipeline is set up right now. Ideal: S: Poulter, Carlini OH: Larson, Hill, Lee, Foecke MB: Akinradewo, Washington, Ogbogu OPP: Lowe, Hooker/Fawcett L: Robinson Expected: S: Lloyd, Hancock OH: Larson, Hill. MBH, Wilhite MB: Akinradewo, Adams, (probably Dixon) OPP: Lowe, Murphy L: Robinson What beef do you have with Dixon?

No beef, just unsure who’s getting the 3rd spot.

Adams has been playing well lately. Middle isn't our problem. Everything else is.

Obviously jk, but I wouldn't care what Tokyo looks like as long as Lloyd, Murphy, Hancock, Lowe, Bartsch, Dixon, Gibbemeyer, Wilhite, Courtney, Benson, Papp, Happ, Wopat, McCage, JWO, and Kingdon were cut from the program and that Plummer is added. I do not think Team USA has any shot at the gold medal without Plummer. She has the ability to be the best player in the world one day, and we should not waste her good years. If I had to pick a 2020 dream team: OH: Hill, Larson, Lee, Foecke or Edmond MB: Adams, Ogbogu, Rettke OPP: Plummer, Atkinson S: Carlini, Hunter L: Lake In the gym: Lanier, Stone, Muno, Alhassan, Washington, Samedy, Lilley, Jones-Perry, Haddock-Eppich, Poulter, A. Rolfzen, Anae, Whitney, Maloney, Cuttino, Rivers, Robinson, Akinradewo, Holston, Quade, White Curious. Do you think thi is our best chance to medal with these girls, OR is this just so the can gain the experience for future Games.

Curious. Do you think thi is our best chance to medal with these girls, OR is this just so the can gain the experience for future Games. Should the goal simply be to medal? It should be for gold, thats why I was confused. Not saying these girls don't have the potential, but with the games only a year or so away, is there really time for them to Gel, get that experience with USAs system, etc? I don't want any international volleyball, so I am also unware how they are doing with their pro teams.

International ball = ball between nations, i.e. national team play Professional ball = ball between pro teams And, I think your questions highlight exactly the problems that have completely impeded development in the USA gym. They're bad questions because they accept and prop up the ridiculous status quo that 18-22 year olds can't be Olympians and shouldn't even be included in national team training sessions. Would we really have a problem competing if we started Hill, Larson, Adams, Ogbogu, Plummer, and Carlini? C'mon.

I firmly believe players like ogbogu, carlini, plummer, rettke, etc should have been training with the team ALONG time ago, but with so little time, is it feasible for them to gel as a team, get up to speed with USA offense. Talent is one thing, and t hey sure have that, but isnt there more to winning than that? Again, Im not saying that they can't, just wondering what yours and others take on it would be with such a huge roster change so close. Thats all,
