Information
USA kicks off their 2019 season with the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), which runs from May 21st - July 7th.
The Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament (IOQT) runs from August 2nd - 4th. USA is in a pool with Argentina, Bulgaria, and Kazakhstan. The winner of this pool will qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The final event of 2019 is the World Cup (WC). This event will not be an Olympic qualifying tournament like most years, in order to avoid Japan hosting both the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympics.
If the US fails to qualify for the Olympics at the IOQT, there will be another opportunity at the NORCECA qualifier in January 2020.

I would hope for something of a youth movement. Maybe add Poulter to the mix at setter. I'd love to see a Carlini/Poulter duo to handle setting duties. I like the potential I saw out of Ogbogu.

I'd predict Poulter will be the starting setter in Tokyo. She's the only one that Kiraly hasn't benched/cut yet. lol
If Kiraly wants to build team chemistry, he better think twice before he benches his starting setter, imo.

Is Ajanaku still injured? Would love for her to be healthy for a season and see what she can do.

Poulter is the least experienced and has had the least success of any of the setters in Anaheim. She hasn’t even played a day of professional ball. Pump the breaks.

When Glass was on the team, there was no question who the starting setter was for every match. Kiraly has benched Lloyd. Hancock was the backup for most of WCH. And he cut Carlini altogether from WCH. (Carlini started over Poulter at Pan Am Cup, but Kiraly was not the head coach for that tournament.)
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself with Poulter, but the setter position is up for grabs, imo.

Carlini was injured coming into the summer last year. She wasn’t at full strength and felt with an issue for a few months. The setting position hasn’t been decided because of this last summer. Carlini replaced Hancock the year before and played more for Lloyd than Hancock played for Lloyd this past summer. Of all the setters, Lloyd seems likely the one that should be feeling the pressure. She had an awful summer.

Glass was the starting setter at the 2010 GP and started mostly games at the WCH but she eventually lost the starting spot for Berg and from there Berg was the starting setter, Tompson became the backup and Glass was cut.....

She had an awful summer. On the net live Karch said they had a setting problem in the WCH .... I was actually surprised to hear him saying that because of course he`s calling Lloyd out. Lloyd is playing in Brazil and she has been very inconsistent and getting replaced a couple of times. Her connection with Fabiana is painful to watch...just as it was painful to watch Lloyd setting Foluke.

I'll say it again: what...? In the London quad, Glass started until Berg decided to rejoin the team. Then she was relegated to the bench. She couldn't get any rhythm in the double sub and was eventually cut from the Olympic squad. In the Rio quad, Glass struggled with injuries and was replaced by Kreklow several times. Once she regained some consistency after getting healthy, she took the reins full-time through Rio. Hardly "no question," as you implied. Carlini had a pretty bad ankle sprain while training for the VNL this past spring. That was well-publicized, so let's not peddle any false narratives about Hancock vs. Carlini that simply don't exist. Carlini was able to heal up enough for the PAC, but she was still rather limited. Hancock got the back-up nod for the World Championships and helped Team USA to one of the worst performances at a major event in over a decade. You conveniently left out the fact that Carlini was selected for the WGCC instead of Hancock, and replaced Lloyd in several matches, starting even, because of Lloyd's consistently inconsistent play. You also seem to be implying that the head coach at the PAC was starting Carlini, but that Karch would've started Poulter... as if JGN wasn't playing exactly who Karch wanted him to play. C'mon. If anything is clear, it's that Karch feels as though he needs to let Lloyd lose the position herself vs. taking it from her. He's given opportunities to whoever her back-up has been to come in and attempt to make a difference when she struggles, and he's given opportunities to make an impact on the double-sub too. There is more evidence that he's unhappy with Lloyd than the contrary, so we agree that the setting position is not locked in. It is, arguably, the most competitive position in the gym (from the fans' standpoint). That's not a good thing less than two years out from Tokyo. We also agree that you're getting ahead of yourself with Poulter.
