you're 100% right, it was lucky for them that they had someone with actual men's experience to start their program. Unlike most of the universities adding, Aquinas actually got someone who had real tangible men's experience. That is why they are flourishing and others who just hire to hire cheap or easy are struggling and will continue to do so. Most of the bottom barrel teams and new programs have A consistent issue, lack of men's experience in coaching staff. Having an in with the CCCAA like he does can be gold with the right resources. Aquinas PIPES money into athletics - it’s a winning combination. But even for Rick, half or most of his coaching experience is on the women’s side. I get where you’re coming from, but I have a hard time criticizing most of the hires with “little men’s experience”. When 88% of the coaching opportunities out there are girls or women’s, what are they supposed to do before they snag a men’s job? Regardless of amount of men's jobs vs women's jobs... hiring a coach who has never coached men's volleyball at any level is asinine in my opinion. It's a whole different beast and an entirely different game. Those without any men's experience wouldn't understand that but those who jump into the men's game with limited to no experience find it out real fast when they get steamrolled year after year because they lack knowledge necessary to create something successful. The only new program that hired well this year was Aquinas and the only hire that was quality for next year is Jamestown. I guarantee Jamestown comes out top half of the NAIA year 1 and I bet every other first year program poops down their legs and is awful.

I understand the buzz with hiring Riley, but - for as knowledgeable as he surely is - he has 0 men’s coaching experience along with 0 collegiate coaching experience of any kind. I’ve seen some solid hires made with the new programs, how good - we’ll have to wait and see. Anyway, back to the purpose of this thread, what’s wrong with Grand View?

[ you are right, I said men's coaching experience but I will correct myself and say men's experience period as that is what I meant. that definitely encompasses men's national team experience lol You are 100% right, no coaching men's experience but his resume is beyond impressive and if you are even coming close to eluding to any other program having that kind of hire as of late, I would love for you to name them lmao Kids will want to play for Riley just based on his experience and if you think otherwise then you are nuts. As far as Grandview goes, they have 2 scorers, an average at best setter, average at best lib, good opp, and average at best middles. Nothing special other than chapman.

As in Jamestown North Dakota is starting a men's program? Will they compete in the same conference as Briar Cliff, Dordt, Morningside and Grandview?

Jamestown announced they are starting a men's program last summer. They start competing next season. They have hired Riley Salmon, the former Olympian, as their head coach. They have already announced the first 10 or so recruits for next year's team. It hasn't been announced yet, as far as I can tell, which conference they will compete in. BC, Dordt, and Morningside (along with Jamestown) are members of the GPAC, but not Grand View. It seems likely Jamestown will be in the conglomerated conference in which BC, Dordt, and Morningside currently reside for men's VB. But who knows. With the rapid expansion of men's VB in the NAIA, it seems like some restructuring of the conferences seems imminent.

Missouri Baptist Spartans over Park Pirates 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21 tonight at MBU. Spartans led by Steven Rodriguez with 14 K, Cam Hibbler with 12 K and Luka Cajic with 11 K. J L Harmon had 39 assists and Skyler Capllonch had 17 digs. Park led by Felipe Guirau with 8 K + 6 blocks, Luciano Bucci with 24 assists and Jaylon Player and Andrea Maggio with 10 digs each. MBU had 47 K to Park’s 27 K but MBU missed 31 serves to 17 for Park so it stayed close throughout. Spartans should be #1 in next poll. New HC Tom Young is off to a great start. Kyle Foley was on the bench as a volunteer AC. 😁

I watched the match from start to finish last night and Park just couldnt hang. the set they won wasnt due to them playing well, it was mobap making a ton of unforced errors. When i saw Park v Graceland earlier in the season i was not impressed either. Mobap is definitely 1 in the next poll, Grandview should drop considerably with the terrible loss to Mount Mercy, and otherwise it will likely be a crap shoot. on a side note.... Ambrose should drop out completely as well. they lost to Robert Morris in 4... I would guess that has got to be the worse loss in program history. I am guessing on that but i cant be far off.

Does anybody know what's up with Calumet College of St. Joseph's? All of the matches they had scheduled this year are marked as Cancelled. Their roster only has 7 players listed. Will they play at all this season? Problems obviously, but of what kind? And will it only affect this year? They only had 5 eligible players so decided to suspend the season. The AD said the coach will try to recruit a team for next season.
