Hey, VT dweebs,
I know you're all eagerly anticipating what changes, if any, are expected for the most coveted All-VolleyTalk Poster Awards. Oh, yes, changes are coming. The NCAA, FIVB, and other governing bodies that I can't name right now don't have a monopoly on annual rule changes. Will these rule changes make a difference in your life? Probably not. So what?
Time Period:
New rule: The All-VolleyTalk Poster Awards covers all posting activity from December 15 of the previous year to December 15 of the following year. So, for the 2019 Awards, the period covered will be Dec. 15, 2018 to Dec. 15, 2019.
Old rule: Only the calendar year, Jan. 1 to December 31, was covered.
Reason for change: It seems activity from mid-December (coinciding with the announcement of the All-VT Poster Awards and the NCAA National Championship) to the end of December unfairly got the shaft.
Eligibility for All-Rookie Awards:
New rule: For any given year of the awards, those users who registered from December 15 of the previous year to December 15 of the year of the awards are eligible. So, for the 2019 Awards, those who registered from December 15, 2018 to December 15, 2019 will be eligible.
Old rule: Only those new users who registered in the calendar year of the awards were eligible. So, for the 2018 Awards, only those users who registered from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018 were eligible.
Reason for change. Again, like the time period rule change above, the old rule unfairly excluded posters who registered after the NCAA National Championship match in December. The spirit of the rule is to recognize awesome posters who are new to the VT forum.
All-Rookie Awards:
New rule: Separate poll will be created to vote for All-Rookie Team.
Old rule: If a rookie appeared on the general ballot and received votes, that rookie will automatically win Rookie of the Year. Also, no All-Rookie team was generated after the inaugural 2016 year.
Reason for change: Just cuz.
Number of votes allowed during the voting period:
New rule: Each user will be given 10 votes each.
Old rule: Each user was given 16 votes each.
Reason for change: 16 was too much given that the vast majority of users only voted roughly 8-10 times. Also, many users elected to "sell" their votes for a variety of politically motivated and ultimately scandalous reasons.
What about the ineligibility of mods who are associated with VT?
New rule: Nothing has changed. All users who are associated with the operation of VT are ineligible. The exclusion applies to usernames, not the person behind the username. For example, let's say there's guy out there named Dwight Dimwit who has a username "Mod Dim." Let's say he is one of the mods of this forum. Let's also say that Dwight Dimwit has another username "vbdimwit." For the purposes of the All-VolleyTalk Awards, Mod Dim is not eligible to compete for any awards while vbdimwit is. The reason for this apparently dimwitted rule is: The Awards recognizes great contributions by usernames, not the person behind the username. Also, I myself can't determine who is who on this forum. I don't have mod privileges. I can't tell if "vbdimwit" is the same guy who goes by "Mod Dim". This is ultimately a slippery slope problem: for every poster who was nominated, should I be doing a background check to make sure that the person behind that username is not a mod? I can't do that without the right tools to essentially OUT you behind the scenes AND spending an ungodly amount of time doing background checks on dweebs like @allamerican11 when I could be playing video games instead!
Okay, I hope this was an entertaining read. If not, screw you, man.
