Thanks for clarifying. I know Texas needs one for sure. Oregon basketball was her first offer so they appear to be on the short list for an official visits. Washington is a front runner as well. She’s taken visits to Nebraska and Texas already. Stanford appears to not be willing to let her play both and are essentially taking themselves out of consideration. Seems to be on the basketball recruiting timeline so who know when she’ll announce. What about usc. I know one of the coaches follows her and the usc page as well. Anything there? 9 players are leaving usc

Just to clarify some scholarship issues (as I understand them) regarding a potential two-sport college athlete like Mendelson: - She dos not have to start out on a basketball scholarship. She can sign a Volleyball scholarship agreement if she intends to play volleyball in Fall 2022; but, once the volleyball season is over, and she joins the basketball team, then she has to switch to a basketball scholarship. (Not sure how summer pre-freshman practices factor in if she wanted to go through summer conditioning with both sports programs) - If she did not intend to play hoops her freshman season, then she can sign a volleyball scholarship. So, just pointing out that I don't believe she is obligated to sign a hoops scholarship right off the bat. In the scenario where she would play both her freshman year, she will end up counting against the basketball limit for the entire year. You can only count against one sport in an academic year. Now if she played (in matches) in volleyball, but redshirted her freshman year in basketball, then she could count against the volleyball limit her freshman year. We found out how the counting worked when Marquis Goodwin started at Texas. He initially was recruited for track & field and actually signed a T&F letter of intent (never signed a football one). He started fall practice in football (freshman year) on the T&F scholarship and would have stayed on it that year if he had redshirted which was the original plan. However the coaches decided quickly that he would be playing and he was switched to a football scholarship. Playing in competition is the factor that decides your participation in a sport for this discussion.

Mendelson isn’t what Texas needs. They need strong passers. They have enough athletic middles already in the recruiting pipeline. It's possible to recruit both. They aren't mutually exclusive.

It doesn't take any effort to follow someone in Instagram.

Say what! how can she possibly be considering Washington? according to some here on VT, our basketball team is nowhere near good enough. /sarcasm/ She's going to get a lot more opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, and in front of family and friends sticking to the Pac-12.

Eh, if she wants to play in front of family, Texas isn't much different than Washington. She's from Ogden. I doubt playing in Salt Lake once a year means that much. I'm not saying she isn't considering Washington. But it's not like she'd be playing a ton of matches near her family either way. The fact that she announced she is reclassifying suggests that she already knows where she's headed. So likely somewhere she's already visited, officially or unofficially.

You think she would go to Texas with Singletary and Bunton already committed? Tough to know all the dynamics, what transpired this past weekend, and what Mendelson's objectives were on her visit to Texas.
- If this was an unofficial visit, guessing she has serious interest in Texas, and knows the depth charts at her positions in both volleyball/hoops. If this were an official visit, I think we'd have seen more out on social media like we did for several of the volleyball and hoops recruits who visited Texas the last 2 months. Out of curiosity, do you mean that the team's social media was highlighting the official visits, or do you mean that it was the athletes posting about them?

A team's/school's social media or coaches are not allowed to put anything out there about recruits (unsigned players) using their specific names; they can only re-tweet what a recruit might post out on social media. I don't think this is specific to Texas, but most recruits seem to post on social media about their official visits. Lots also post about unoffiicial visits.

I couldn't remember ever seeing my school promote a visit, but I have seen prospective athletes do so.

I saw Melé at the Colorado game she was there with her family. She was sitting in front of me. They seem to enjoyed the game and were rooting for USC.
