Is Oregon a consideration for Mendelson? Oregon is a big WBB school? Oregon is a good BB school. It's ranked 10 in the latest ESPN pre-season. Other possibilities (just based on having teams good at BB and VB): Louisville, UCLA, Baylor, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona, TAMU. Those are all ranked above Texas in ESPN's pre-season WBB rank.

Pure speculation!? Didn't you just claim "At this point, it's pretty clear that if she (Mendelson) were to come to Texas, she would play basketball." and you want to give ME a lecture about being lazy and misguided pointing out the top recruits Texas had riding the bench? Girl bye. There are literally zero scholarships open for volleyball for 2022 or 2023 based on the players committed/players staying. She was JUST at a football game mere days ago. There is literally no room for her on the volleyball team, which is why it's more likely that if she were to come to Texas, it would be for a basketball scholarship, which is what I said. You then said "if she wanted to play basketball there are way better programs than Texas.." tf does that have to do with anything? My comment was related to you specifically calling out Cabello as to why she's "riding the pine." She was injured last season, which is why she didn't play. But you're trying to make the case about her "riding the pine." You brought up Madison Williams, which I then addressed (Eggleston and Fields). You think she's better than them? It's clear you have some sort of issue against Texas, which is unsurprising. Take a breath, it'll be alright. She'd be taking a basketball scholarship over a volleyball one ANYWHERE she went because of where a scholarship must count per D1 rules. That doesn't make Texas special. If she was a scholarship basketball player, she'd walk on to the volleyball program, just like Hattis did years ago. It's obvious you DON'T know what you are talking about. Also, do yourself a favor and quote what I ACTUALLY said rather than some made up garbage. What I said was "If she was just going to play basketball only, she could be picked up by a lot better programs than Texas." Re Cabello and Williams, again, as I explained to one of the more reasonable Texas posters, YOU are the one that started this by saying some flippant comment about how Orr did not sign up to play at Nebraska to ride the bench for 2 years...... your post, quite literally quoted: Now I know Orr didn’t sign with Nebraska only for her to sit out two and a half seasons…c’mon I then pointed out the current elite Texas recruits who AREN'T playing. Does it matter WHY they aren't playing? no..... the fact is that they aren't. As I've said before, it's rather ridiculous for Texas fans, given the way the program recruits (which is amazing btw) to comment on Nebraska players not expecting to ride the bench.

Williams is the team leader in kills (390) and digs (380) for a Lake Ridge team that is 36-6 and ranked No. 77 in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com. Lake Ridge is one match behind District 7-6A co-leaders Mansfield and Waxahachie with four district matches remaining and will face Mansfield (ranked No. 9 in the state) on Oct. 25. I KNOW SO Wow, you completely f'ed this up didn't you? Your copy and paste says her TEAM was ranked 77th by prepvb, not her. She was a #9 senior ace. Try getting a few more posts under you before you start trying to spout what you think passes for knowledge to the rest of us. I mean, the poster at LEAST could have went to the Texas website for some further validation: 2019 AVCA Under Armour Second Team All-America … 2017-2019 PrepVolleyball All-American … 2019 Volleyballmag.com All-American … named to the USAV National Championship All-Tournament Team in 2017 and 2019 … 2019 USAV Junior National Training Team … 2017 USAV Youth National Team Roster.

Just to clarify some scholarship issues (as I understand them) regarding a potential two-sport college athlete like Mendelson:
- She dos not have to start out on a basketball scholarship. She can sign a Volleyball scholarship agreement if she intends to play volleyball in Fall 2022; but, once the volleyball season is over, and she joins the basketball team, then she has to switch to a basketball scholarship. (Not sure how summer pre-freshman practices factor in if she wanted to go through summer conditioning with both sports programs)
- If she did not intend to play hoops her freshman season, then she can sign a volleyball scholarship.
So, just pointing out that I don't believe she is obligated to sign a hoops scholarship right off the bat.

You're the one who made the claim that Texas is trying to add Mendelson to the team and then asked how many elite players have rode the bench at Texas. Scholarships for both 22 and 23 are DONE, so if she were to come to the school, it would be on a basketball scholarship (hence why she was on a recruiting visit on Saturday). The Orr comment was made because anyone who's been on this site for the past few years know the discourse around Hames and her performance. There's no secret that Orr is a stud. The fact that she could potentially sit behind Hames for an add'l year is why I commented what I did in the first place. This was in no way some sort of generalization about elite players not playing for programs. This was about Orr and that's it. Of course elite players are going to sit out! Yes, I'm very well aware of Hattis (basketball scholarship player) who walked on to the volleyball team. Which is what I said re: Mendelson, that if she came to the University, she would be on a basketball scholarship. I didn't say anything about her playing or not playing volleyball. You're the one who said that Texas is recruiting her to play volleyball.

Mendelson isn’t what Texas needs.
They need strong passers. They have enough athletic middles already in the recruiting pipeline.

Oregon will have three post players 6'7 and over on their roster next season. I don't think Oregon is much of a choice. Thanks for clarifying. I know Texas needs one for sure. Oregon basketball was her first offer so they appear to be on the short list for an official visits. Washington is a front runner as well. She’s taken visits to Nebraska and Texas already. Stanford appears to not be willing to let her play both and are essentially taking themselves out of consideration. Seems to be on the basketball recruiting timeline so who know when she’ll announce.

What are some key take aways from this conversation? -Texas fans, we aren’t the only ones with top recruits at most positions, including on the bench -There’s nothing wrong with wanting the best recruits, even if some will ride the bench. -Orr May or May not end up riding For bench for a while. Who knows? Probably not even John Cook -read the stats you’re referencing before you reference them. Tre embarrassing not to. -Mendelsen will end you where she goes with whichever scholarship she wants to play whatever sports she desires. One, two, neither, both, maybe even javelin for good measure. Time will tell.
