I really like Scipio Aemilianus . I think he contributes to threads and I enjoy when he makes the trip over from the men's board. (Coulda fooled us, recently!) Honeymoon over? Two uber-trolls finding out they're too similar to "have room in this town for both of them"? GOOD GOD: Doofs of a feather!

Stanford won because they scored 9 kills and an ace in the fifth, and Nebraska missed two serves and hit three balls out. The winner was decided in the fifth. Nothing that happened before the fifth set matters. Nebraska also scored 9 kills in the fifth. Stanford also had 3 attacking errors in the fifth. Only other thing you mention is a Stanford ace and two Nebraska missed serves. It seems pretty obvious...

It's flawed and based in poor logic and poor understanding.

Nebraska had overcame the non-rally points? What about the idea that Stanford overcame the more typical, more complicated rally points that Nebraska won more of? Exactly. Saying those statements as questions, doesn't make them sound illogical btw. At 24-24, you could say Stanford had overcome the difference in rally points. Their final 4 points? All rally points (2 kills, 2 "rally" errors by Nebraska).Again, you can't just remove points like that in a vacuum. Point A comes before Point B comes before Point C. Removing Point B doesn't mean "Point A --> Point C." After every point, team's make adjustments. Nebraska made adjustments in Set 1 after 21-19, not to allow any more Stanford non-rally points.

"Rally points." What a worthless designation. IMHO. Personally I agree too. I think while it’s accurate, it’s kinda silly. But the concept is true. Aces and service errors eliminate all the other factors in the game. Nebraska hit better, dug the same, blocked nearly the same. All the other aspects of the game were very similar, except one glaring stat. It’d be dumb to dismiss that one glaring stat as meaningless. But yes, the term non-rally and rally points are silly. Every point is a rally, some just end quicker than others. Dying to find a catchier term for it. I’m all ears if somebody has a better descriptor.

Hi Joe, Thanks for posting the match analysis. Hope you won't be discouraged from creating other important Stat posts because of the way this particular thread has spun out of control. I always enjoy reading VolleyTalk discussions because of the new knowledge and interesting perspectives I get from the posts. My one wish is that all of us would appreciate the idea that we all love the same great game. I think it would be better if we could all make a better attempt to be more civil to each other in our discussions.
I like this game more than you. No you don't. You're an idiot because I am the one who likes this game more than you. No! You're the idiot. I like this game way more than you! No! You are a . . .

I don't have a problem with "rally points." I just have a problem with it being a catch-all for all non-rally points. They aren't the same.

Honestly I blame boof for Nebraska’s loss. Penn State should have finished off Stanford in the regional final.

is shhhhhh a woman? therefore everyone is wrong and should stop trying to argue about petty things. Stanford won fair and square, don't need to make it complicated and involve math otherwise you're just making yourself look like a complete volleyball nerd hahaha

Ah, sexism and homophobia... Just what this thread needed. no you just have a habit and go out of your way like its your life mission to be right even though you may be wrong. i get it that you know alot about volleyball to go this in-depth about a match that was over a month ago is king of ridiculous lol. Heck its even almost January and the only thing i will remember about 2018 is Hawaii miraculously making the tournament and Stanford winning the Championship.

Because all/only women do this. On-topic opinion exchange is not what throws a thread off. Ignoramus comments, on the other hand, are.
