Is this the end of the McHugh administration? I think Pacific deserves better than what they've had the last three years.

Alright, Cal wins the last match on the first day of competition in the NCAA tournament. On an unrelated note, I've clicked off 100 posts this evening (and boy are my fingers tired - rimshot)! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) So, when you consider how many matches will be played over the next two evenings, I think I need to call it a night and rest up. Good night all! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Man - that was a freak show. Pacific was on most of the night, and Cal was WAY inconsistent.
Gabrielle Abernathy was lights out, but what I was most impressed with tonight was when Ellen Orchard came in to replace a struggling Angie Pressey. Ellen played MB (and I think some RS) in HS/club, but she's played a few times at the left this season. .

Ellen Orchard totally changed this match and saved the "day" for Cal. Every player, no matter how great she is, has a melt. Pressey, like the others in similar situations, will come back stronger. Congratulations to Cal for their comeback. Wonder if St. Mary's will use the hype from Feller taking false credit for being deserving of one of the top seeds to motivate them or whether they will dispense with nonsense and just outplay Cal on the merits as they are capable of doing.

Kind of indicative of both teams' seasons: Up and down. UOP searched for consistency and couldn't quite reach it. Cal had a roller coaster season, fought beyond some injury problems and perservered. UOP had its best game of the year in game 3 with 20 kills on 32 attempts with 0 errors. Then they were up 5-1 in game 5 and was outscored 14-6 from there to lose 15-11. A home team in the playoffs simply has to hold its ground in game 5, and Cal did with an exclamation point. Kudos to Orchard who came in and turned things around for Cal in game 2 and continued her solid play throughout the match. Now do you play her or Pressey tomorrow night against SMC? Mussie probably had her best match of the year for Pacific. And in this match, I believe Hailey Anderson reached second place on the career assist list at Pacific with greater than 4421. And after missing 2/3 of the season with a knee injury, it was good to see that Kara Uhl came in and got some key aces and digs in back row play. UOP did what it had to do this season, start the upswing to a program back on the rise, and for that I commend them. Many thought that without Joines and their main recruit injured (Uhl), that it would be a .500 season, but many, mostly seniors and juniors, stepped up. This team improved in defense, blocking and attacking this year. Despite the heartbreaking loss, I believe the future looks bright for the Tigers. And I believe tomorrow night's Cal and St. Marys game is going to be a barn-burner.

I think Feller moderated his hype in later interviews. I'm starting to think they had a canned statement prepared in the first story on the Cal athletic website, probably made in anticipation of being a seeded host. He's since said things more in the line of the NCAA being pleased with Haas Pavilion as a facility and Cal's operation of the 1st/2nd round matches last season. The crowd for both teams was amazing. I think I saw PG and Mr Pacificman, but no PG Jr. I thought of saying hi, but there was just way too much orange around there for this Oakland A's fan. As one of my fellow A's fans would say: "Once you go green, you won't go Halloween!"[/b][/color]

No Pg, Jr. tonite, she's got school tomorrow.
What a heartbreaker. Yup, home court advantage had its advantages. Oh well, next year.
We've got a good middle in the wings to replace Sarah, Uhl could take Rentz' place and I don't know about setter. I hope Allison improves over spring so she can start setting. She'll be a very big plus in helping to block at 6'2".
Lights out for the Pg family.
Go Gauchos!!!

I can't believe I'm still up.
I've got five pictures I'd like to make available. Mostly I wanted to get one of Ellen Orchard in the game. However - I can't seem to get to the Earthlink start page so I can upload them. I'll see what I can do Friday morning.
Good night.
