Her younger sister Sami Love plays for the BRANDON Bobcats - second year. That is esoteric knowledge that most on this board appreciate. Nice job!

With the win Canada moves on to the second stage qualification for VNL. No jump spin serving for Bailey, Van Ryk, or Joseph. Canada plays a 6-2 with Van Ryk and Joseph on the right side. I was a little surprised by this as well especially with Van Ryk and Bailey who were able to serve tough and put teams out of system last year.

I have seen it be VERY effective from her when it works, but considering the general state of Canadaโs service I think Coach Black is being cautious and going for consistency instead of aggressiveness.

Was a bit surprised at the starting setter position. I like Dani Smith but Cyr was the clear starter last year. Other than her, the lineup was very similar to last year. I was also surprised (in some ways pleasantly). I believe Black wants to see more offense from the middles. Cyr seems to struggle setting the middles and Smith much more comfortable. It would help tremendously if the middles could get more involved and take some of the load off the outsides. Maglio and Cross can terminate if given the chance and a decent set. I think Perrin likely traveled over Ogums for the reason that she is a little more mobile and offensive (runs the step out better). Joseph seeing more playing time this season, thus far, with Black than she saw with Abbondanza.

It looks like both setters will get playing time which is fine imo as they are both veterans. They are only a few weeks into Coach Black's system so likely that the middles will become more effective as time progresses. A bigger question is the serving style as the jump spin serves gave the Dominican and Brazil (B team) fits during Canada wins at last year's Pan Am Cup. Van Ryk received the top server award at that event.

"wrists and hands", "straight and simple", "small bigger biggest", "left is right, right is wrong", "No Wins With The Spins"... I'd fall off my chair If I saw anything other than a float.

I hope Courtney Baker will eventually get on some A team rosters (I've never watched her play though, not sure what her potential is.) I think the media could have a field day with that since she was in The Miracle Season; it's just what VC needs to promote the sport here.

Saw her play at USport Championships this year and was very impressed when she played a true 6-2, setting from backrow and swinging from the front- and no little love taps either, she can bang a ball.

Come on man, I'm aware what a 6-2 is haha. Just to add; the kids love Courtney, she's very involved in the vball community. So many get their pics taken with her whenever she's at an event. It's nice to see.

Sorry the Americans call a 6-2 something completely different than Canadians do, so just trying to be clear for all parties ๐
