This was mentioned in a podcast earlier. Teams are going to be watching videos of the Volley Vikings and figuring them out. Rich Lambourne/Kevin Barnett both bet on that they would not have another run like the end of last season. Makes sense. I just couldn't see any weaknesses in their game last season. They both side out at extremely high percentages. It seems like the only way to beat them is to read Mol's blocks better to avoid him generating points on his block. Once Mol gets rolling at the net, it's too hard to earn too many points on them. I am curious whether Spain used a different strategy or just played consistent & clean & that was enough (as they are a pretty consistently solid team).

In a surprising turn of events, Qatar won bronze after a first set loss. 13-21, 21-15, 15-10 Yeah I wasn't expecting that. Glad I stuck with it. Some good rallys in the second. I wish I could hand set like those guys That Qatar team has always been crazy athletic, but their ball control has really improved. I expected them to have more trouble with the quick offense and sky ball but they really didn’t. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win an event this year.

I dont know if they will match last year but Id be very surprised if they didnt win 2 and I expect them to get 3+. I think 5 wins is more likely than 1 for the year

Did anyone watch the Mol/Sorum vs. Spain match? What did Spain do to win that match? When those teams played last season, Mol/Sorum didn't seem to have any issues. I miss watching Mol/Sorum in the semis & finals. When the U.S. teams don't make it that far, Mol/Sorum is my go-to team to pull for. They are so fun to watch. I am wondering whether they peaked last year & will now drop back somewhat, or whether they will be able to sustain last year's level this year. Any thoughts as to what happened in this match & what to expect from them this year? I watched the game and at first Mol and Sorum seemed to have no problems at all and it looked like they were going to win the game easily. In the second set the Spainards started to play more consistant and Mol and Sorum made more mistakes. It also seemed like the tooled Mol's block a lot. However there were several block touches that could have been blocks but ende up landing out of bounds. So I'm not sure if they were really always going for a block out or if they just got lucky. But they definitely didn't try to hit straight down as much and started to use more line and cut shots. They also blocked and dug quite a few of Sorum's hits in the 2nd and 3rd set. Overall I'd say Mol and Sorum just didn't play their best game. They looked much better in their previous games. Mol seemed to have worked on his jump serve and he served well early in the tournament however against the Spainards he was totally off. Like I said he was also a bit unlucky at the net at times. Oh and I also think that they served the wrong guy in the end. They served the guy who plays on the right side (Gavira - if I'm not mistaken) whereas most teams go after Herrera who's the weaker side out player in my opinion. Not by much though.
