I think this tourney will be the end of Ricardo/Rosie, Rosie has lost so much explosion, he's just not able to do what he used to do with any regularity. Santos should grab Del Sol or EB, faster, younger, much more explosive. Rosie would then likely go back to Avery, at least then Avery wouldn't have to deal with Zany Zaun. Eric would be in serious trouble if this happens.

Very good tournament for Chase/Piotr, hung with teams they lost too, handed teams they should beat pretty easily. Their partnership is renewed for now.

Is there a taller brother who is much better at volleyball that Im not familiar with? If you add up Beranek's points from both games that Rosie smoked him in last wek, do they even make 21? Whats the most points Eric has ever scored in a game against a top 10 team? 15? 16?

Anyone who disagrees with my statement that Troy is an elite AVP blocker needs to watch him roof Skylar over and over and over. A 5'10 part time player who has never qualified for three events in a row? Could we maybe wait for him to do well blocking against a main draw dynamo like Frishman or McKibbin (Riley that is)

The Beranek/Lorentz result against Budinger/Friend has to be a little frustrating and concerning for those 2. Friend IMO is not even close a a main draw type player.

Beej05 - thanks for letting us know what its like out there! Last question - do you think the heat/humidity is affecting the players at all? Its got to be messing with some of the older guys, one would think?
405LAX - agreed about Beranek and Ricardo. Its not always about pure statistics - seems to me like you should also take into account a guy's partner at the time he may be playing against whoever you are comparing him to. Beranek's points scored against someone are not really relevant, because they are not really "Beranek's points," are they? Guess that's why its a team sport.
Beranek would be a much better choice for Ricardo at this time - would probably rejuvenate him a bit, and Ed would learn so much from getting some reps in with a guy like Ricardo. Thoughts, Stevieofmb?

I do think Skylar's attacking is a lot more potent than some of these lower level main draw players that size for sure, especially a guy like Frishman, although his scrambling defense does need to be better at this level though. I do think right now today, taking out any future potential a player has, guys like Beranek, Frishman, Skylar, Riley McKibben, and other guys like Hagen SMith, are all pretty interchangeable at this point with different strengths and different weaknesses that offset each other. Obviously Beranek has future potential, and maybe Hagen Smith, but today imo they are all interchangeable.

I think Riley is a cut above all those guys but the rest I agree

Rosie is all but done, he's an average player right now, below average foot speed and overall fire. Just look at Chase and how muck more dialed in he is this season, he's improved yes but playing with firecracker partner helps. Ricardo will move on soon, bookmark this post.

Ricardo may move on, but an average player is still way better than the guys you mentioned. Rosie was in a final 10 months ago. Chase's struggles, and that team's, were not Rosie's fault other than one or two events. It was Chase struggling to block anything and giving up a ton of points

I just love how sharp Bomgren and Field play in these tight moments. They did it in HB and they are doing it here in Austin. Bomgren has definitely showed Field the focus in these 3rd games, and FIeld has definitely followed.
I see 2 things with this team. Bomgren has really solidified himself with the results he is getting with Field amongst others last year as a top tier player, and Field is learning how to win and stay focused in critical times. They are really becoming an upper tier partnership imo.

Just love Bomgren's tempo when he plays. He knows when they have momentum and he just plays faster and he knows how to slow the game down when they need too also.
