What's real difficult for Big10 programs in volleyball is maintaining such a grueling season and not getting burnt out by the time the ncaa runs around. It seems most teams peak mid season and falter in November. It's almost an art to get a team to peak at the right time. I thought Oregon played their best match of the year against MN in the regionals. MN played one of their least impressive.
It's a tough season.

I can see why a Minnesota fan would think the badgers have underachieved, as the badgers haven't beaten them since before SSS took over as setter. And some of those losses have been absolute spankings. Other teams don't have quite the same experience.

Minnesota has clearly lost to teams they were better than in tournament where Wisconsin has not.

I think that leads to a little bit of a skewed view from Minneapolis. The only year where I think UW really did underachieve relative to talent is 2017, even then they were short a Haggerty, and really young. I agree about the tournament.

Three of Carlini's four losses in the NCAA tournament were to the eventual national champion. But sure. Underachieved. Again, this isn't difficult. The thread is about winning the B1G, not NCAA results, not having good seasons. I don't know why Wisconsin has become the default favorite to win it this year. Based on what? Most people picked them last year, too.

I assume you mean a plurality, but even that wasn't true. Was definitely between Nebraska and Minnesota. Badgers were a good margin behind in third.

I don't think Carlini underachieved at Wisconsin, either in the B1G or NCAAs. I don't want to disparage players too harshly here, but she never really played with the supporting cast of the teams that knocked her out of the NCAAs or won the B1G

For the record, I don't think Carlini underachieved either and did not claim she did. I do think the Badgers did, however. Except 2014.

Also, for the record, the 2018 preseason B1G poll:
1. Nebraska 2. Wisconsin 3. Minnesota 4. Penn State 5. Illinois 6. Michigan 7. Purdue 8. Ohio State 9. Michigan State 9. Iowa 11. Northwestern 12. Indiana 13. Maryland 14. Rutgers

Since we're questioning Wisconsin's ability to win big matches, can Minnesota do it without SSS who has elevated the program? I am unsure if Miller has improved enough, or if the left sides can produce consistency without the SSS tempo.

I expect Samedy to have a good season because Miller can set the right side much better than the outside from what I've seen of her.

That is a legitimate concern. And a lot of pressure on Miller. Assuming Barnes can be replaced (by CC improvement and Miyabe/Kilkelly), Miller is absolutely the wild card. Penn State is probably the smart pick.

Shouldn't the B1G preseason rankings have been released by now?

Shouldn't the B1G preseason rankings have been released by now? No, they are always pretty late. After the first poll anyhow.
