Let us not forget Karch is our coach. What makes sense to us doesn't seem to translate to him.

I know it's been asked, but does anyone know if Courtney is sick? Wondering if Lake will start tomorrow too.

I haven’t been able to watch any of the matches. I don’t want to be a homer. I’m looking for honest opinions.
Has this tourney so far shown Mary Lake: A-has no shot to ever be on the National Team. B-has a shot, but not until 2024. C-has a shot for 2020 because Karch likes spunk.

I think the closest answer is that it is nearly impossible for a libero to succeed at the international level without consistently seeing professional-level serving with the international ball. This version of Mary Lake is not good enough to be an Olympic-level libero (although, it seems that the USA doesn't have one of those but they'll have to put somebody in the jersey). However, that doesn't mean she can't be.

I think it's leaning toward B (definitely not C) but she's going to need to find a pro league the second she graduates. Lake has been a solid defender who shows signs of improvement but her serve receive isn't there (I know people want to give her credit for her improvement against Poland but they weren't serving tough) and she needs to assert herself more. But I do think she could be a NT libero in a few years.

I am rewatching the match and I love hearing Karch yell "THAT'S THE ONE" anytime someone serves nicely.

One of the commentators in the match yesterday mentioned that she had some heavy strapping on one of her legs. So my guess is that she’s injured.

I think at this point our Olympic Libero will either be Courtney or Robinson. Both are too slow on tip coverage due to their height but both can pass decently. We will just struggle with off-speed attacks and getting the ball into transition.
I would really love to see what Akiu brings to the table. I’m just not a fan of converting Outside Hitters to Libero. I realize that for young american liberos getting overseas gigs is really tough. Especially in top tier leagues due to foreigner limitations.
I do think Lake has potential and could see her becoming our go to come the next quad by the 2022 WCH.

If she injured then Robo needs to Robro. She didn't hurt us at that position last year like Lake/Courtney have this year. On top of that she is still the number 4 outside behind Bartsch, Hill and Grandma Larson who, at this point, are all better attackers while supplying good to excellent serve receive skills. Heck I could even see Foecke sneak in there in the next year or so go back to being a bro, bruh.

That's scary to hear about somebody who has recently torn an ACL.

For the young liberos, I just think they need reps and that comes from a pro league. Unfortunately, Lake can’t experience that for another year. I do think that by her getting more PT right now, it will help a little
