Wowsa... I had a feeling this would happen. I am guessing that it's partly caused by all the fuss she caused about the volleyball program not getting respect, in addition to "losing" their top star.
From the article: "We have high expectations for our volleyball program," Johnson said. "We have not finished ranked in the Top 25 in over a decade. We have not beaten a Top 25-ranked team since 1998. We will work diligently to attract a good pool of candidates for the head coaching position. I believe due to our resources and recruiting area the Fresno State volleyball program can be one of the best on the West Coast, which means one of the best in the nation. This year, 14 schools from California reached the NCAA Tournament."
Yet... you refuse to let volleyball play in the Save-Mart? How are you planning on getting top athletes to come?
"I'm looking forward to seeing what the pool of candidates will be," Johnson said. "We will move quickly and carefully consider all applicants to find the best coach, which our student-athletes and community deserve."
They should have said: The best the fans and community deserves for what we can afford...

Wow, too bad for Lindy. I thought she was doing a pretty good job at Fresno. And she had high aspirations for the team. It will be interesting to see who they can attract that will be able to fulfill their lofty goals.
Note: 67 season ticket holders? That's not too good.

Lindy was quite the babe back in da day. I have a tape of UH/Fresno St. from '92. Anyone remember Paola Paz-Soldan?
I didn't know Olympic Bronze Medalist Ruth Lawanson was the assistant coach there, either.

Lindy made a fuss about not getting respect, partly in connection with the school's refusal to let the use the Save Mart Center. Kristen Fenton is the star player that quit the team midseason.

I didn't know Olympic Bronze Medalist Ruth Lawanson was the assistant coach there, either. Yeah, I wonder what Ruth is going to do? She's one of my favorite people. Do you think they even consider her for the position or is the entire staff gone because of the comments the A.D. made?

I think it has more to do with the fact that Lindy is very outspoken on Title IX issues, and Fresno State is definetly known for favoring the football players. She hasn't made too many friends among the men's program coaches. I thought she did a good job, how many other schools in the WAC can say that they have won a WAC championship lately.

Too bad for Vivas. The fact that the program had not beaten a Top 25 team since 1998 really hurts her position.

I thought she did a good job, how many other schools in the WAC can say that they have won a WAC championship lately. That is exactly what I was thinking when I read this article. Since 1996, only one WAC team out of 17 possible teams has beaten Hawaii. I can see some points from the AD. Yes, low ticket sales and a weak schedule is one thing. But what are the expecting? They are not going to develop a program like their softball team. I was a little amazed at the scheduling. It is very true that she hasn't really scheduled a lot of tough teams. I don't know if there is a reason behind it (financial constraints, etc.), but there are very few "name" teams aside from Hawaii. I was worried about the comment the AD made about not scheduling from the "power" conferences. I was hoping that they administration wasnt thinking that the ACC or Big East is considered a power conference as in some of the major sports. Vivas had a few Big West teams in the mix, with UCSB and Long Beach, typically ranked teams. But not a singe Pac 10 team in the past few years does raise a few questions. True, it would be hard to get UCLA, Stanford, or USC as a lot of people want to schedule them. But even another remotely decent Pac 10 team wouldn't hurt. I wish Vivas the best and I hope Fresno State can get a new coach who can meet their standards.

I hope Fresno State can get a new coach who can meet their standards. Yeah, this last part make me wonder too. I'm curious if it's a coach that they want or someone with a Sports Marketing degree?

Yes, it's the coach's job to win, but it's not the coach's job to put people in the seats. That's the job of the marketing department. Winning helps, but it's not the end all, be all that brings people to the stands. Look at USC. Great program, lots of winning... yet how many come to the matches? It seems like she got fired in part because of her outspoken ways and that is way too bad for the volleyball program. That should raise a huge red flag in itself to future prospects, as it says volleyball will always be an inferior sport, no matter how well it does.

Paola Paz-Soldan, have not heard that name in years... she was the hardest hitter I have ever seen in women's college volleyball.

I heard a rumor that Ruth Lawanson and Lindy's other assistant have rallied behind Lindy. I'm told they gave notice and they are both gone also. That doesn't help the AD's cause. Losing an former Olympian, and the nicest person you would ever meet is definitely not a good thing for the program. I know of a few outside hitters that went to FSU just because Ruth would be their hitting coach.
