Dang DR falling apart, meanwhile BR playing their best when it counts. That's their frequent problem, far too inconsistent, often choking in the crucial moments, that is why they haven't made the breakthrough to join the rank of first-tier teams.

They have the talent to beat anyone. Hopefully they can get that one win they need to build some confidence.

:'( :'( Congrats to Brazil, they won back-to-back five setters and advance to the Olympics. Dominicana has to win the NORCECA in January, location TBD. So basically they have to beat Canada? Puerto Rico over DR isn't an impossible upset either.

But they often can't deliver when it matters, that is their problem. I don't agree with this at all. It's just the style that DR plays. They have clear advantages and weaknesses. Yes they make mistakes, but it's clear their serve receive is their weakest link. If you take advantage of that with tough serving, is it really "choking" or not delivering for DR? DR does not have near the talent depth that a lot of others have, and especially where they need it. They don't have a healthy DS option like they did at the 2014 World Championships, so they depend on MB Eve to get it done in serve receive for 3 rotations, or have Rivera on court as OH or DS at times to help get by. DR's backup setter was a part-time starter at FGCU. FGCU!!!! They have very little depth, that's why their talent sticks around for so many years. The main part I didn't agree with is that DR doesn't deliver in big matches. In the 2014 World Championships, they won the majority of their 5-set matches, including beating Host Italy. They also won the majority of their 5 set matches this summer. They went 3-0 in 5 setters at the Pan-Ams, and went 4-1 in 5 setters at the VNL. The problem is that DR has not been able to improve their ball control. Brayelin is constantly getting better, but De La Cruz has poor reception. DR has a surplus of physical athletic attackers but has 1 player (Castillo) with superior ball control. That's not good enough at this level, but DR still finds ways to stay in matches. I think they should be proud of their result today at Brazil, rather than feeling like they choked or slipped away. They were down 0-2, played better, and then Brazil played better in the 5th.

She was not superwoman today like she usually is. yea she was stealing a lot of 2nd balls from Marte. That's what she's supposed to do. Out of system, she delivers better balls than Marte. But it looked like since she was just getting back to the team, they preferred Marte to take those balls. But today she wanted to set more, but she was definitely a little off. She should be back to form by January. Btw, she had a girl. USC is getting her, you can have Foluke's kid.

Sure, I partly agree with that. I agree with the faults you highlighted, ball control is not there when it counts and also I should add their mental game is not really that great. I just have a...different view about them not delivering. Pan-Am is all nice and well, but it is a relatively minor tournament. They did well in 2014 I agree, but their record since then is...up and down.

So basically they have to beat Canada? Puerto Rico over DR isn't an impossible upset either. Believe it or not, Puerto Rico hasn't been Dominican Republic at a senior-level tournament in a very long time. They have over 20 straight victories, something like 10-15 years. Not even at the Pan Am Cup or Games, World Grand Prix, etc.. DR has lost to Cuba and Canada though in recent years.
