I coach high school. Here's how we play it.
First, our state high school association recognizes beach as a separate sport, so no rules violation to play doubles during indoor season.
With that in mind, players are allowed to play in any beach tournament that does not conflict with our team schedule. They may not miss a few days or take a few days off for one. Commitment level to the team does not change no matter who you are.

Only 4 of a possible 10 WCs used.
I think I'm happy about this, means more teams that have played in the Qs all year are getting in.
The women's Q looks pretty light compared to others this year, because of the big draw.

Isn’t beach considered a different sport? Like you can play club basketball during vb season and not violate CIF rules. Not according to CIF. Again, unless they’ve changed the rules in the past year or so, as I haven’t kept up with the current regulations. There was that infamous skirmish with the Halloween beach competition about 4 years ago, that led to sanctions for the Dyers and some other top players. But I checked into this CIF rule a few years ago for players competing on State Championship level HS teams and also in the CBVA Cal Cup, and beach was determined to be a separate sport, and not a violation.

Who is playing the left on the Hughes-Wilkerson team? Assuming Sara. Will be interesting to see how she handles that change.

Blows my mind that players of that level and ability, and especially ones of Sara's nature that are defenders, cannot play both sides. I have no idea if Sara can or can't. But Karch for example. How can you be this great all around player and do everything great but not play well on both sides?

It's not about not being able to play both sides, but both sides at an elite level. Different footwork and vision are needed. A vast majority of her attacks and setting will be from one side, so that side gets the most practice.

Kids their age can play all day every day with little sign of fatigue or soreness. Hard to believe they’d voluntarily skip MBO, especially the way they’ve played in other AVP events. I bet G2 is right. Probably some over-controlling club coach threatening to bench them if they play beach. They’ve been training indoor for 3-4 hours a day since August 5th. Volleyball at Torrey Pines High is a big deal, they’re key players, so the bikinis go in the closet until December. They’re literally kids, and have like twenty MBO’s in their futures. They already have schollies locked up, so they can enjoy playing indoor with their high school friends and chase an indoor state championship. I don’t see anything untoward about any of that. Thanks for the explanations. I saw a Kraft registered and got excited, but then realized it's a different young lady!

Well, Brooke Niles and partner Katie Horton did not make it past Round 2 of Q. They lost 12-15 in the third.

Look like Brooke last playing in 2013 on AVP. I wouldn't know of the NVL she played on.

Interesting results from the Qualifier already.
The #32 seed, Northern Cal players Belton and Holroyd, took down the #1 seed en route to securing a spot in the MD.
#41 Sparks/Van Winkle also advanced.
Seeds #4, 5, 6, and 7 advanced. Two spots still playing...#15 vs #34 for one spot and #30 vs #14 for the other.
Edit: #30 McKeown / Monk-Heidrich advance (they beat #3 Nourse twins in their second match)
# 15 Jerger / Moreland advance
