THIS I LIKE.
The total prize money is the same as in the FIVB Nations League, 2,110,000 US Dollars, and will be equally divided between both genders. But unlike the VNL, it will be mostly divided among players and not among national federations.
The FIVB has decided that federation will get rewards only as reimbursement of expenses, while the majority of the money is left to the athletes. But, the money will be spread among players via federations. The distribution of the prize money will be made as follows:
1st place – $600,000 for players; $30,000 for federation 2nd place – $300,000 for players; $15,000 for federation 3rd place – $100,000 for players; $10,000 for federation
(Wonder how the Women's VNL situation all ironed out. Hopefully cooler heads prevailed.)

This is great!!! And motivation for the players for sure. ~$43K each for players on the winning team is some nice extra cash!

That is to the discretion of the Federation. To me the bigger point is that the players are being heard and this is a "bone" of sorts being thrown their way to placate the meeting and complaints over the past year or so of how the players were being grinded down with very little reward in the FIVB federation seasons.

Well...when put that way, they deserve more! I think I saw someplace that they’re starting club season later next year so hopefully that will give players time off after VNL/Olympics which I know is important as well. I have no idea what USNT players get during the summer for pay/stipend/extras (like a housing allowance), but playing year round for what they get paid makes me say that they deserve whatever the Federation gives them.

This will be just a friendly tournament, and the Japanese Federation is the one "giving" this extra cash in order to make the tournament more attractive for the players, otherwise nobody would really care to play 11 matches and win like $200K like in the past. If the World Cup were to be organized by another country Japan would be missing all the action, just like Brazil did in 2015 and that did hurt them, Japan already missed the Qualification Tournament, and they want to get tested as much as possible and not be left out since it is really important for them to play against the Top Teams. This had nothing to do with FIVB listening to the players. Some European Teams won`t even be sending their best players.

Yup. Tis a pointless tournament.
If the FIVB board had any brain cells at all they would have made the World Cup a few weeks after the VNL and had it count for two Olympic qualifying spots like in past quads. Everyone would have brought their best line-ups. So what if Japan is also the host of the OG? If by some miracle either Japanese NT (men or women) placed in the top two.....simply qualify the next lowest placed team.
Then after World Cup hold the Continental Qualifiers. Then in January hold the IOQT but with only 4 pools of 6 teams. This makes sense but AVC (money behind the FIVB) doesn't want this because it favors CEV teams.
They did this to themselves by holding a completely pointless tournament. Yeah there are world ranking points up for grabs but for teams like Serbia, China and the USA they would have to place near the bottom of the table to even fall 1-2 spots.
For teams like Brazil, Russia, Japan and Netherlands.....the ranking points could help to get a favorable pool draw during the OG. The other 5 teams I do not expect to even be a factor as they will not likely improve on their 2015 ranking which is the point of the tournament.
Literally the entire world ranking structure the FIVB has in place is "paid for" by the AVC. They have the money and they like hosting and keeping their teams qualifying for everything. This also inflates Asian teams rankings granting them favorable draws for future tournaments. The current system completely screws European teams over, ESPECIALLY mid-tier teams. This isn't as much of an issue in the women's game as it is in the men's where the pool of competitive teams is almost to 20!
The women's game is evolving and such favoritism shouldn't be allowed. The Ranking system needs an overhaul.
I am currently watching EuroVolley 2019....so many of these mid-tier CEV teams are better than almost all other teams in other Federations.
It's just sad for the sport and is contradicting to the FIVB's mantra claiming to "grow the game".

Good stuff.....but however the players receive more rewards for their 12 months season is fine by me.

I know they have been putting the Libero jersey on a random MB or the 3rd setter, but this is a long tournament with lots of games, so I can see Dagostino being included to give E Shoji a break. If not, it will be K Shoji and Ma’a, I assume. A 5th OH is tempting as OH1 and OH2 have been on the road to 100% all summer, but Anderson can maybe move if needed. Also, I think Speraw said earlier this summer that the World Cup gives him a chance to have others start and play (i.e. Patch, Stahl, Jendryk, etc)

I read somewhere that the FIVB is thinking of adopting the world ranking system used by FIFA. This way teams that don't play in a tournament aren't penalized for it. The way I understand it is the more you win the higher ranked you are.

The FIFA rankings kind of hurt teams that do not make tournaments because every single match is taken into account. It would help the teams in Europe because they play play more matches in their continental tournament against higher ranked teams.
Matched given an importance rating... so things like the Pan Am Cup will count towards the world rankings.
Not sure how accurate they are.... Belgium is currently number 1.

Hopefully they can create a hybrid system or something that works better.

Preliminary rosters dropped today. Already some interesting additions and subtractions across several teams.
