Elite Eight Makeup:
4 Pac-10 Teams 3 Big Ten Teams 1 Big Twelve Team
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweet Sixteen Makeup: 4 Pac-10 Teams (UCLA, Washington, USC, Stanford) 4 Big Ten Teams (Minnesota, Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin) 2 Big Twelve Teams (Nebraska, Texas - Perennially 2+ teams from B-12) 2 WCC Teams - (San Diego, St Marys - lately, it's been Pepperdine, but hey) 1 WAC Team - (Hawaii - Perennial Contender) 1 ACC Team - (Georgia Tech - recent Cinderella) 1 SEC Team - Tennessee (Fluke that its not Florida cuz Wise didn't play senior setter) 1 Conference USA Team - Louisville (Because they hosted a Regional)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, it would be kind of easy to argue that some of the teams weren't meant to advance as far as they did, and others could have advanced further with better draws, but my point here is to show why that the 6th place (or lower) team from major conferences are invited to the Big Dance, while second placed teams from minors aren't. The top conference teams always advance.

And Big West got 6 teams in because??? The argument isn't that the 2nd place mid-major team will make it to the Sweet 16, but that they can compete as well as the 6th place team from such and such league, and deserve to be in, getting the experience in the big dance, and giving their own conference the chance to improve from it.

I was kind of hoping we'd forget about those 6-Big West teams getting in... I'm happy they did, but I'll admit, if I were on the committee there wouldn't have been 6 without some other changes.
