BTW, I hate that the B1G is having teams play each other twice in such a short period of time. The schedules are unfair to begin with. This makes it worse.

now that Miyabe is showing some effectiveness in 6-2, not sure why Rubright is preferred blocking sub for McMenimen running 5-1. guess it's what they practice or perhaps Hugh is taking more risk to involve more of his bench.
Kudos to McMenimen for finishing the 4th game with the win.

This makes it worse. last year there was a post showing the B!G unbalanced schedule w/ RPI etc to see who had the easiest path to win it all. is there one for this year?

Was watching Kylie in the 4th set on the bench, she was sitting in the 2nd row, looked like she had an ear plug in her left ear and put her hands over her ear at one point when it was getting loud. Wondering if she had more concussion symptoms during the match.

Kylie was smiling and looked relaxed. Yes, she had earplugs. About half of the people around me did too. You know she's not used the the noise that you get playing matches in the B1G. She also joined the team during time outs. I wonder if her sitting in the 4th was pre-determined as part of precautionary measures. They could be bringing her back slowly. This has to be a frustrating year for her.

Wisconsin / Minnesota is the toughest road trip in the country. On back-to-back nights with no breather? With travel included (albeit not great distances)? Yikes. Illinois handled it much better than I thought they would, though they do themselves no favors spotting the opposing team the 1st set in like every match they play.
They will be a huge challenge for whatever seeded team's sub-regional they're sent to.
As for Minnesota : on the match as a whole they passed much better than they did last week @ Wisconsin, and I thought they served tougher as well.
It will be interesting to see what Hugh does with McMenimen / Miller. As the season progresses, McMenimen is finding a rhythm with her hitters.. and it will take Miller a minute to get back to where she was when she went out with injury...

I thought their passing was horrible. But so was Illinois's, so it didn't matter. I don't know what the solution will be if Rollins doesn't return to 2018 form.

Some tough serves too. Unfortunately she did have one bad error which shows on the stats. BTW stats show no reception errors for Rollins - so although not great, maybe it was better? Adanna 'recorded' one error against Northwestern and three against Wisconsin. The stats aren't very useful by themselves.

When I say they didn't pass great, I guess I'm specifically referring to Rollins. CC passes half the court, so that's a big responsibility and has its ups and downs -- but, in general, she is good to very good. Rachel plays 3 rotations and probably has 1/3 of the court to pass. She's been very good and frosh-like this year, but, again in general, she's been adequate. Rollins has the same 1/3 of a court for her 3 rotations and probably less when she's in the front row. She has been, just to be honest, brutal this year. She was very good last year, especially for a frosh. Barnes, of course, was excellent.
Anyhow, I don't know how their passing will improve significantly this year unless Rollins returns to 2018 form (while CC and Rachel pass even better) or unless Rollins is replaced. Is that even an option? I don't know.
Hart is Hart. If she puts the ball away, they can live with her passing. If she doesn't, that's when Sheehan seems to come in.
I have no idea if Miyabe is a possibility. It sure looked like she could pass in JuCo, but that was JuCo. Not sure they have anyone else, aside from Litzau, that they could use. I would guess they have evaluated Samedy in practices and she is not a viable option.
If the passing continues like this, they really need Hart and/or Samedy to be effective when they are borderline out-of-system. That's been rare this year (their effectiveness in those situations). Right now, they can't run their middles and their pins can't put the other team on the defensive. So they rely on their defense to get back in system. That can work. But it's hard to count on.

I am loving being able to see Miyabe play in the 6-2. She is so lithe, quick, and agile... and she can really get up! It looks like she is finally finding her stride - she looked a little uneasy or unsure in earlier matches. Seeing her in her first kill against Illinois in the combination play hitting in the middle reminded me a lot of Morgan actually. Great to have her as an option!

Miller looks very slow/cautious defensively in the back row the last couple matches. You can tell she is a bit uncomfortable with any kind of diving or anything taking her too far away from upright. I definitely feel for her - trying to find that balance between keeping your head safe and sacrificing your body a little for a dig. Not a fun choice to make when balls are flying at you.
