speaking of the MVC, Valpo is one to at least keep an eye on. Yesterday they discontinued men's soccer and men's tennis. Coach Avery's husband is (was) the men's soccer head coach. If he moves on to a program in a different part of the country...

Thank you. It looks like they significantly underperformed this year.. Manolo probably won't get the interim tag taken off. I would't be surprised if you will see a job opening there soon, interim coach might not be good fit for this program

Manolo is a solid individual. Went to MO St to be an Assistant under Melissa. Forced into the HC position after Melissa was gone. Not sure how the culture and team dynamics are going other than the obvious losing. I would think they would conduct a national search after the season is over. MVC will be interesting... I agree with Valpo, as it will be interesting as Carin has been there for 17 years. Job is safe if she wants to stay for sure. Drake under performing, but will they chalk it up to a bad year? Indiana State's record has not been impressive... at all. Hot seats?

I agree! Also, Has Manolo actually won at the DI ranks? Like truly won, multiple .500+ seasons, any championships, knocked off any ranked opponents? I feel as though he has struggled his entire career. Maybe I just need to be enlightened by someone. He was head coach at Evansville....no one wins at Evansville. I can not speak to improvements, or positive steps forward, the program may have made. Curiosity got the best of me. Evansville has made the MVC tournament 4 times. All before Manolo took over. If they hold on this could be number 5: 2008 8-10 in conference 6th seed lost in the first round to UNI 2006 6-12 in conference 6th seed lost in the first round to Missouri State 2000 10-8 in conference 4th seed beat Creighton in first round and lost to UNI in second round 1998 8-10 in conference 6th seed lost in the first round to SIU

Top half of the league is well-funded in terms of scholarships and budgets. Bottom half is not even close to the same level of funding. It was not that long ago that the teams in the top half had double the budget of lower schools and not all bottom half schools had 12 schollies. Evansville, Drake, Indiana St, etc... are just trying to win the half of the league to make tournament. Winning the "Have nots" division means being 6th in league and going to MVC tournament. Making the tournament every couple of years is about all they and the other "Have-nots" can hope for until support gets more in line with other schools.

And just think, Creighton and Wichita State was in the top of the MVC not that long ago with the "Haves". Upper half puts out a strong Mid Major Conference though. So do you give those Coaches at the bottom mentioned more time or not? Will we see an opening after there conference tournament?

So where would you rank the MVC amongst the mid-majors?
After the power 5...
1) AAC 2) ? 3) ? 4) ? 5) ?

Manolo was the Assistant at Evansville in 2008, which was the last year they made the Conference Tournament, and it seems like they will make it again this year (according to the standings that were posted earlier), with players that he recruited. He left Evansville to assist Melissa Stokes, who most probably got fired (resigned) for more than it was made public. Nobody leaves a position they have held for so long, unless the school has something on them that really sticks. On the other hand, no school pays 80,000 to a volleyball coach to leave, unless silence is convenient for both sides. No surprise on why this season has been rough for that program. They probably ended up doing more damage control as a result of that mess, than playing.

That's a shame, solid coach. I heard that a huge part of the job is trying to fund raise for the program itself.

NOT ENOUGH DEPTH AND TOO WEAK AT THE BOTTOM.
