I wonder if Cabello will end up landing in Florida next season. She’d be in her home state and then maybe playing against Texas if we end up joining the SEC sooner.

We must be looking for another setter for 2023, no? As a back-up to Swindle

I've been thinking of what people Texas fans grumble about after another horrendous passing match: "Jerritt needs to go get some more DS or Liberos"
Well, yeah. Duh. But almost all of them, with a few exceptions, have to be walk-ons. I know Peterson and Iosia were recruited specifically to be libero, so they most likely have a scholarship. But with a 12 scholarship limit, the DS/L with the scholarship is usually the exception. Texas used to have a larger walk-on DS program. They would play 1-3 years and then give it up and continue as a student at UT. So, I took the AVCA top ten, counted the roster size (when I watch teams not named Texas on TV it boggles me the size of their rosters), counted the DS/L and also the setters. I was a bit surprised about the size of some teams. One team not listed, because they're not in the top ten is Florida with only 13 players and two DS/L! Caveats (because you can't post anything without people turning into jailhouse lawyers): 1. Some OH's play defense (passing) like.....Parra! 2. Some teams (like FL) play OH's all around, so they don't count as DS/L but they play in the back 3. Some teams have players injured, so the size doesn't mean the size (duh) 4. Some players change their listing over time, such as Jhenna coming in as DS/L and is now S 5. Blah, blah, lawyer, blah, blah
I think it's not easy for Jerritt to tell Tanya, "Okay, get me some DS bodies". I too wish that some days when one of our back row is having a particularly hard day we could put someone else in. I mean, that's how Jhenna got her job. Which is ironic, because today is Halloween, the anniversary of the game against TCU when Setter#1 was having another tough day and Jhenna went in and took that job away.

Over the last couple of years, I think Jerritt has been changing his view/importance as it pertains to backrow players. Most of the time, it seemed like he only allotted one 4-year scholarship per 12 scholarship roster. Two seasons ago in 2019, when his scholarship Libero (Petersen) struggled in the post-season, he offered UCSB Libero transfer, Zoe Fleck a scholarship (even knowing that Iosia was coming in 2020 as a scholarship player). While Fleck didn't come, Elliott found a way to add grad-transfer Libero, Morgan O'Brien (scholarship status unknown). And, low and behold, 2020-21 ended up being our best passing team ever, IMO. While that 'ship comes at the expense of a front-row only player (Opposite/MB), I think it's worth it for ball control and defense. If we count Parra as a back-row only player (even though she came as an OH), that means we have 3 scholarships allotted to players (Iosia, Petersen, and Parra) who are playing in the back row exclusively (albeit Parra has played some in the front row in later sets). Even if we consider Parra a serving specialist, her role is important. And, Reilly Heinrich as a walk-on adds depth to our back row. Next season, I do believe Emma Halter is coming in as a 4-year scholarship player (especially when you consider how early she verbally committed, and Petersen moving on and vacating a 'ship). So, assuming Parra, Iosia, and Heinrich return in 2022 in their current roles, the roster numbers remain the same for the back row. Would it be great to add more DS walk-ons? I'm all for it if they want to be part of the team. You never know who could surprise and be worthy of substantial court time and a possible scholarship.

I watched the episode of Out of System where they toured the Nebraska facilities... it's super nice -- yes we have Austin, but in terms of volleyball dedicated facilities and fanbase, I was envious.

My hope is when/if they were to win another championship that some major renos happen to Gregory Gym. I know she's old old but I would like to see the capacity expanded, as well as a teraflex floor provided. Would love to see the capacity reach at least 6k.
