did she sign or commit, bc there is always time for a player to deommit😉 Good question. Since the rest of the class has already signed, she could have signed. She did fly into Lincoln just to surprise the coaches and give them the good news. She had the perfect opportunity to ink the LOI. Another question is - with her signing would that vault the Nebraska recruiting class to #1 again? 5 of the 12 players on the Under 18 US team have now committed to the Huskers. Melding and molding that talent into a team will be a real challenge. Not every super star will see the court. Will any be willing to play second fiddle, waiting in the wings in case of injury, etc? Mendelson will probably get playing time - Huskers are losing Stivrins for sure after this season. Based on the NB Senior night, it looks like Caffey and Schwarzenbach are leaving too. You gotta hand it to the Nebraska recruiting staff - amazing classes, but IMO it's probably inevitable they're going to lose somebody great to transfers. Top recruits want playing time, nobody that good wants to sit the bench...

How does that work when the seasons for the sports overlap, like right now. Would she not join the basketball team until volleyball season is done? Yeah, she’d have to stay with the VBall team until the season was over. She’d have practices and I guess maybe could get in a home game but that sure is risky. She may not stay with the volleyball team until the end of the season. Her scholarship will count toward the basketball limit and the basketball coach may not want to be without a top player for a month.

Caffey, Hames and Swartzenbach have 1 year of eligibilty left, and although they participated in senior night, coach said any decision on them staying will be made after the season ends. So they may be back for 2022.

Now that is just funny.😆 You think she plays with the vb team until the end of the B1G conference season and then checks out of the vb locker room and into the basketball locker room? What’s the NCAA volleyball tournament compared to playing basketball against Western Michigan or Creighton in December? You should write jokes for a living. . . 😆

Going to be hard for Nebraska (or any other school that she could have chosen) to make it not look like the basketball team is funding a ship for the volleyball team if this is the plan.

There’s a tier system in place for scholarships. Basketball knows it takes the player away for the first few months. There is zero percent chance she plays a normal volleyball season only until basketball starts. No matter where she would have gone.

Greichaly Cepero joined the basketball team after volleyball was over as late as 2002-2003.
At this point, there has been no official statement that I know of regarding if Mendelson will be playing under a volleyball or basketball scholarship.

You can still play both, but it has to be under a basketball scholarship. The same reason you aren’t allowed to be on a beach volleyball scholarship and play both. If not, you could use it to pad scholarships for the sport.

I'm confused, what did you mean when you posted "There is zero percent chance she plays a normal volleyball season only until basketball starts. No matter where she would have gone. "

The “only” was the major part of that.

For basketball, the early signing period ran November 10-17, I believe. So, that ended this past Wednesday.
