so uh there goes anymore 2025 recruits (rip) There’s still almost certainly an official visit available as well. One match normally doesn’t decide a recruitment. It’s great for them to witness an exciting win, but it’s not the end of the world if they don’t. That said, a 92,000 attendance world record for a women’s event might. But I can’t speak to that. UT and Austin have plenty to offer. The volleyball program is the most consistently successful in the entire country. This year’s team is a little down from the last three years, but it’s still really good with room for improvement. I don’t know how the recruitment with Spears, Demaria, and Harvey will go, but we do need to win at least some recruiting battles against Stanford and Nebraska. Vander Wow looks like a home run, so I’m excited for her to get to campus in two years.

Some think we'll lose recruits because we lost a game to Stanford?
Those are folks looking for anything negative on Texas.
On the flip side, seeing the unveiling of the banner and the very strong fan support would seem to be a positive for a recruit. And the players they saw play? They'll be gone by the time they show up as freshmen, good or bad in terms of their chances of starting.

LSU was rumored to be in the mix i thought so but i have not heard thing lately I think she might have been on an official visit a couple weeks ago because a lot of LSU players followed her and vise versa

I don't know that anyone will say no because we lost, but it's definitely not the slam dunk it might have been if we had swept Stanford instead. IIRC, beating Stanford in 2021 led to commitments from Devin, Ella, Helmers, Bunton and Byrd that same week. Spears might still sign- USC and LSU are having their own issues and Nebraska is full up. Harvey is going to be tougher IMO especially if she has the grades for Stanford, conference chaos notwithstanding. Demaria seems like JE's backup offer if Spears declines. I dunno. Just a guess

Just a guess JMO, but I don't think the match result is what "led" to them picking Texas; not sure it can be proven one way or the other. Personally, I think the excitement of the win helps; but, (hopefully) not the determining factor. I believe Helmers had committed several weeks earlier than that match. Thought Byrd still took an official visit (Purdue?) after that match; then selected Texas week or 2 later; I could be wrong on the timing.

Harvey is going to be tougher IMO especially if she has the grades for Stanford, conference chaos notwithstanding. Demaria seems like JE's backup offer if Spears declines. I dunno. Just a guess I don't believe those players committed to Texas because Texas beat Stanford. That's not how recruiting works. Nebraska just had Harvey in for their volleyball day on Wednesday. It's all about relationships as much as anything else. Well, in men's basketball and football the dollars help, too. I'm sure that will be a factor in volleyball moving forward, but outside of Nebraska I don't think anyone has a more robust NIL program than Texas, so not terribly concerned about that. Even when the dollars matter, you have to build relationships. There's no substitute. When the dollars matter, you don't even get to put in a bid if you don't have the relationship built. Certainly not a winning bid. I can't say I'm concerned about talent acquisition, because I'm really not. But recruiting certainly matters. What I do know is that we have no real idea how recruiting is actually going in volleyball until the commitment is announced. I've been in a position where I knew quite a bit about both the coaches' perspective and the family's position on a specific recruitment, and often times it wasn't anywhere remotely close to what conventional wisdom said it was (not in volleyball, though). We don't even really get accurate snapshots on here. It's just a comment here or some kind of insight there. But these things are so fluid. Especially after visits. Maybe they connect with a specific player or specific coach? Maybe they have a certain major in mind and they meet someone on campus connected with that major who wows them? I remember we used to lose recruiting battles with LSU and Arkansas because they had better academic support, and by that I mean LSU had a brand new student athlete learning facility built that impressed parents, and Arkansas used to have one of the best learning disability support systems in the country. It wasn't that their academics were better. The parents weren't paying attention to USNews and World Report rankings. They just saw the resources being thrown at student athletes and decided that would be a better place for their child. I'll also say that Elliott is finely tuned to the importance of recruiting. If he loses enough recruiting battles he's going to change things so he's not any more. It's just without a real scholarship class in 2024, it puts more weight on who he's able to get in 2025.

We all expect 3, possibly 4 redshirts this season- I'm wondering if that's the wave of the future? Seeing how much super-seniors have contributed to their respective teams since Covid

Seeing how much super-seniors have contributed to their respective teams since Covid Well, everyone has their opinion on who might redshirt. I'm thinking Helmers for sure. Bunton likely (unless Singletary faces and unfortunately injury/illness that rules her out down the road this season). Tomkinson can only play Opposite; she seems like a redshirt candidate as long as Molly and Devin stay healthy. Byrd seems least likely to redshirt since she can provide depth at both OH and Opposite this first season.
