so does anyone know anything about mataia lawson (committed to texas softball class of '25)? maybe i'm way off but david & cursty have her pic on their ig stories...maybe they just know/met her...she plays volleyball & very undersized outside...it just seems interesting Can she pass? I'd be surprised if she would be anything other than a walk-on DS. We're not exactly hurting for pins with the '23s being redshirted and the '25 class. |

We're not exactly hurting for pins with the '23s being redshirted and the '25 class that's what i was thinking ds but who knows If I'm counting right, in '25 we would have 8 pins for 3 starting spots (assuming 5-1): Miller (assuming no transfer - R Jr) Devin (same - Sr) Tomkinson (R-So) Byrd (R-So) Helmers (R-So) Spears (Fr) Gaido (Fr) Vanderwal (Fr) ETA: I'm just realizing, Devin would be the only senior - this would be a young crew of pins. Actually kind of exciting |

RE Lawson- she’s club teammates with Vander Wal at 1st Alliance so not sure if that’s part of the equation there.

She’d have to be a scholarship player for volleyball to play both sports, and the scholarships are pretty precious for volleyball. But it is interesting. I wonder if there’s something to it. |

Added: She most likely chose Texas not because of any relationship with Vander Wal, but with Teagan Kavan, freshmen pitcher on this year's team. Travel ball teammate.

I guess it would depend on how good she is. But yeah, if she walks on for both sports there wouldn’t be a scholarship conflict then. |

Yeah, that kind of answers that. #5 player in the country types usually aren’t walk ons. In partial scholarship sports it’s usually about how much money each program is willing to give. At least partly. I’m also kind of curious as to how much we’re doing with NIL to better compete with OU. No real clue, though. |
