So, what do we know about former Husker, Opposite, Whitney Launstein? I've been trying to put the pieces together from numerous posts on different threads.
I was actually told in late December by someone with good sources "don't be surprised if Lauenstein transfers to Texas at some point in the next 6 months". But, then we heard about changes in Whitney's personal life that perhaps changed the course of her collegiate volleyball career.
Is the recent speculation based on actual facts that she wants to return to playing college volleyball? Based on her Instagram, she is following Texas, Louisville, Minnesota, and Long Beach State volleyball accounts. Someone posted that she started following Ayden Ames on IG on Wednesday when Ames announced she had committed to Texas, and Ames followed her back. Someone posted that she was following several Texas players and coaches on IG, but I didn't see that when I scrolled through her list of followed accounts.
Even though she relinquished her 'ship at Nebraska last December/January, she's technically not a "free agent" until she officially enters the transfer portal (just like Morgan O'Brien had to do). Has there been any confirmation that she's in the portal?

Has there been any confirmation that she's in the portal? true investigation skills right here as far as I know, there has been no traction for her just yet. It might be best interest to wait until this season is over and see how the top teams line up.

If she has plans to enroll somewhere in January, the next 4-5 weeks would be the best time to make official visits and attend volleyball matches at prospective candidates' home courts; taking visits in late December or early January when classes aren't in session and future teammates aren't on campus isn't ideal, IMO. If she doesn't plan to enroll anywhere until summer, then she'll have all Spring to make visits and consider her options.

UT would be best for her to do with our past experiences with Haley. She seems like she's ready to move on from her past life in Nebraska.

I'm really hoping Lauenstein comes back. She's such an athlete and fantastic player. Obviously I'd be pumped to see her at MN but having her back on any team would be great. If she ended up at Texas you guys would be stacked for the next few years with Ames adding to a great '24 class and a really really really good '25 class coming in. Kind of hard to not be a longhorn fan with all those amazing athletes.

Sure, we're spoiled and entitled as fans, but it's difficult to have a different perspective than the one you experience. Elliott is amazing at talent acquisition and he's at a place that can maximize that strength. Much of which he contributed to.

Whitney is a great player but I’ll rather have the players that Texas recruited have a chance on the floor.

i'm not sure why texas would go after lauenstein (i know she's talented)...we have a lot of pin hitters unless some players are planning to leave the program
-no scholarship for her (nil) - especially if both skinner & wenaas return next year -it will be difficult to keep air byrd off the court next year -opp. position opens up with phillips leaving (devin? byrd?)
-i'm not sure she would get playing time -imo if texas goes after her someone is leaving

Not to mention she'd have to relocate to Austin with family in tow. My understand is there is no shortage of animosity but uprooting your whole life based partly on sticking it to your old coach. That'd be a choice.

Who says we didn't recruit her out of high school? I’m talking about the one’s that actually choose to come to Texas the first time around Well, there are plenty of transfers I'm extraordinarily excited about. Just on this team there's Skinner, Bergmark, and Barnes. Last year had a slew of them. I have nothing against transfers in general. But unfortunately as a fan I have ridiculous expectations for what they should be able to bring to the team if they're transferring to Texas. Or they're playing a niche role that's extremely useful.

I'm in favor of bringing in whichever high school recruits or transfer players our coaching staff believes will improve our roster, increase competition in the gym, and give us the best chance to compete for national championships.
We all know that attrition happens every off season. With such a large 2023 recruiting class (5) several who enrolled in January, I'll be shocked if we don't see at least one defection announcement come December.
I think players and coaches alike get a feel throughout the season how a player fits into the future roster and how likely they are to contribute on the court at a level that makes everyone happy. There are legitimate reasons why young players like Cabello, Williams, Pierce, Iosia, etc. moved on early in their careers.
