Oh, someone is leaving alright. 👀 No inside information. Just the same thing I’ve been saying all year. Same thing I said about Parra last year. If you have aspirations to play volleyball after college you need game reps. You can’t take any chances with your last couple of years of eligibility. Especially if you’re not being played meaningfully right now.

Oh, someone is leaving alright. I wouldn't be surprised to see Devin leave... I’m normally against speculating on things that haven’t been announced (this is purely tea leaves) because I think it disrespectful to the current ‘team’, but I think some decisions were made and discussed recently and that’s why Devin didn’t come in at all in West Virginia.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn’t think Devin had played in either game. I still get the feeling she might be on Parra’s trajectory, so to speak, but that’s the way things go. She still looks positive out there, so credit to her for that, either way.

So, let's just pump the brakes a sec here. From my perspective:
1. Next year Devin would be a third year OPP competing against a two redshirt freshman OPPs - Byrd(?) and Tomkinson 1a. I mean everyone's got Byrd penciled in as OH next year
2. Lauenstein, assuming a lot of guesses comes true, would be a junior, who hasn't played in a year and hit 0.130 and 0.238 her first two years 3. So.....Devin would leave based on the "competition"?
What am I missing here? The "anger" she has at not breaking into the starting lineup?

my assumption is JE and staff would only go after Launstein if Devin (or someone else) has given reason for them to need another OPP

There's some risk involving adding Lauenstein to the roster and the staff expecting her to win the starting Opposite spot. As you said, she hasn't played volleyball since December 2022. If she's in good to great physical condition despite the recent changes in her personal life, that's quite important as I doubt her arm strength or volleyball skills/instincts have diminished. Her college match experience compared to anyone else we have returning on our current roster is night and day. She started out her sophomore 2022 season at Nebraska on a great run, and then tailed off, I believe. But, her stats are actually quite impressive when you factor in her blocking and service aces. static.huskers.com/volleyball/stats/2022/2022.pdf

i hope devin stays @ texas & fights for that opp position...it does not make sense to me to go after whitney (even if devin wants to leave)

my assumption is JE and staff would only go after Launstein if Devin (or someone else) has given reason for them to need another OPP While that is perfectly logical, I was told by a couple of folks I trust since last December not to be surprised if Lauenstein ended up at Texas down the road. I have no other details as to why; at the time, I thought it was strange with Molly returning. And, it was before changes in Whitney's personal life. She has 2 years of eligibility remaining, so she would be our most veteran pin come 2025.

Is someone insinuating Devin would leave because of the competition? I would say it only makes sense to transfer if she has aspirations to play professional volleyball to go somewhere there’s a greater guarantee of playing time. If she just wants to put in her 4 years, get a degree, and be a great teammate, stick around at Texas and see how it turns out. But if she feels like she can be a 6 rotation pin at the next level, based on how she’s been used her first two years, why in the world would she take a chance with the precious two years she has remaining to stick around and find out? If they had played her in a more meaningful way, sure. She could feel valued on the court and feel like she has more of an assured spot as a starter. But instead she’s been extremely limited in the time she’s seen both years, and this year she has an extremely quick hook. Why would that change in the future? Again, it’s the same with Parra last year. It’s one thing if you’re getting meaningful time on the court. It’s completely different if you’re only seeing time when matches are considered out of reach. If that. The same thing will happen with the players redshirting this year. By their third year if they haven’t seen the court for meaningful playing time they’re going to be looking around for places they could. IF they want to continue their career beyond college.
