I’m not too impressed with Halters reception skills to give her a 4 year scholarship Hindsight is 20/20 good thing not everyone is a head coach/recruiting coordinator

good thing not everyone is a head coach/recruiting coordinator Really though, who hasn't had a run of bad serve receive? The key is that she's one-arm-banditing it like no one's business and that's what the scholarship is for.
It's like saying that Madi or Logan would have a few games where they shank the serve. Okay, well that's not their day job.
ADDED: Not trying to pick a fight, but as I was reading the criticism, I thought, "No one gets a scholarship for serve receive"

I love Halter. I consider her a team strength. I don’t completely understand a different point of view.

If Whitney Launstein did come to Texas, how would Texas fans feel? She’s definitely more terminal and athletic than Molly. She is shorter but she can jump. She finished 2022 with 297 kills, second on Nebraska. She averaged 2.78 KPS hitting .238% on the season. If she came to Texas. The 3 pins will most likely be Launstein, Skinner, and Wenaas. With Helmers, Kahahawai, Byrd, Miller, and Tomkinson on the bench. What are y’all’s thoughts? I would love to have her. But also, what does this mean for our recruits?

So I wasn't that keen on Lauenstein, but her stats from 2022 are good. She only hit .238 on the season, but was Nebraska's leading total point scorer despite only paying 3 rotations. She was also the second best blocker on the team at 1.07 blocks/set, which I did not expect. Horde was #1, Allick was #3. I agree with slxpress, signing Lauenstein means saying goodbye to Devin. She's too good to ride the bench another year. I wish we had more data to compare Devin and Lauenstein though

I don’t speak for other Texas fans. Just for me. But I wasn’t a fan of bringing on Wenaas and I’m not a fan of bringing on Lauenstein. But I don’t get a vote, just an opinion, and I’m fine with that. I also don’t see Kahahawai on the bench.

Will be interesting to see what she does IF she does leave, my money is she goes to usc

I would say I don’t know if we have a scholarship for her without someone transferring out but who knows with the way we can pull them out of hats seemingly. However I BELIEVE her arrival would include the departure of another one of our pins as we are assuming our current outsides both take their covid years. Our roster management year to year has been one of the best in the country so I have confidence in the coaching staff to make the right decision, and if that includes bringing Whitney in I am on board!
To think our entire 2020 and 2021 high school classes are already gone except for Heinrich is wild.

To me the choice isn’t between Kahahawai and Lauenstein. It’s between Lauenstein and Byrd (or Helmers/Tomkinson). Byrd still has a chance of beating her out, so we’ll see. My preference is to see the youngsters play. Personally I want a clearer path to playing time, but it’s simply a personal preference, not a real critique. I felt the same way with Wenaas, but she’s earned the starting position, regardless of my feelings about it.

It's clear she is a fantastic teammate - super positive, very supportive of others - and the feeling is reciprocated. I remember when she got subbed in during the BYU (I think) matches and had killer swings, when she went to the bench the entire team celebrated her success. Normally everyone high fives, but the entire sideline was jumping up and down, it was so cute

Another wild fact- If Whitney were to come to Texas, the 2021 runner up Nebraska roster could potentially include a former longhorn and three future longhorns. That’s a huge amount of overlap between two teams. And it doesn’t even include the Ames flip, Davis’ transfer, or the coaching overlap with Sullivan and Larson.

It's also not clear that (i) Lauenstein would choose Texas; or (ii) if she did, that she would definitely beat out Byrd/Helmers/Tomkinson. Byrd currently looks like the most dynamic of the bunch, but we've yet to see an indoor swing from Helmers and only the short pregame warmups from Tomkinson. Lauenstein probably would have an easier path to starter at Louisville with Aiko Jones leaving.
