For funsies, who do ya'll predict will win the starting OPP spot next year between Devin & Whitney? Whitney has had more in-game experience but has taken a year-long break from training (?). Devin. I will never understand the Kahahawai over Byrd/Lauenstein. I was rooting for her so bad but idk if it’s just the lack of match play with Swindle or the connection but everytime she comes in for Jenna, she gets subbed right back out. Her best match was against Ohio State when she had 6 kills in one set and then didn’t have anymore kills after that. She played 3 sets against LMU and had 6 kills hitting .125, she played in 4 sets against Washington State and hit .111 with 6 kills. 3 sets against Kansas with 6 kills hitting .278%. And 3 sets against TCU with 7 kills hitting .190. She’s hitting .153% for the year. I do like the hype she brings from the bench and the fire. I think she is our current YBG. If Lauenstein doesn’t come then I’d like to see Byrd on the floor.

Kenna Miller was literally standing next to Greg Abbott as he signed a bill with similar rhetoric. Much more public (and harmful) in my opinion than liking a tweet. I don’t agree with either Whitney nor Kenna (which is part of the reason I’ve been reserved towards Kenna on this forum), but clearly it hasn’t disrupted the team much, and I seriously doubt would come into consideration during her visit. Who knows, maybe Austin can change her views a little bit.

I wasn’t saying it was going to come into consideration during her visit — I was just saying it was disappointing to see and a jumpscare when all I was looking for was recruiting tea.

IMO, these political posts are ruining our recruiting thread. But, I know several of you aren't gonna stop now that you got started.

My preference would be to try to respect people have differing views about things, but it's different when your identity is based in part on your political views. I don't mean that in a pejorative way, either. I mean that in a very real world way. If you're gay and you believe in gay marriage, and I'm heterosexual, and I believe government sanctioned marriage is reserved for heteronormative couples (that's not my personal view, I'm just using it as an example) it's a little challenging to just say let's agree to disagree. That's a really fundamental difference in world view.
What I do prefer is to look for ways where can come together with our views. It's pretty easy if we concentrate on what ends up being divisive issues to become divided as a community. I don't care what kind of community we're talking about. The only thing I've been able to do is to try to listen to opposing views in a way that at least makes another person feel like I care about their perspective, but I've often found that's not enough if the issue is important enough to them. "If you're not with me, you're against me." And that's true regardless of political affiliation.
That's been my experience, at least.

If Lauenstein doesn’t come then I’d like to see Byrd on the floor. My belief in Devin is based on what I've seen of the various players discussed along this subject:
1. Molly - 4 years as starter, 1 year as backup 2. Devin - 2 years as backup 3. Jenna - 3/4 season as starter 4. [mythical] Whitney - a few YouTube highlight videos 5. [to be redshirted] Jordyn - just warmups
I can't judge [mythical] Whitney, so I can only compare Devin against Molly, Jenna, and Jordyn And really, should I compare her against Molly since she'll be gone next year?
So it's: Devin vs. Jenna vs. Jordyn (warmups) vs. YouTube
JE always harps on "if you could see what we see in practice" as the reason he plays or holds back a player.
As a true freshmen, he saw enough of Devin in practice to give her "closing time" in games. But that goes both ways and not enough to give her starting time.
I go with what I've seen in game time as a Longhorn player - Devin.

Went to Whitney’s twitter to sleuth if she’s liked any Texas Volleyball related tweets. First post in her liked tweets was a true jumpscare. Great. She must have unliked it. The first message I see is from Riley Gaines. Welcome to Texas, Whitney! Come join the ride to NCAA Natty #3!

It’s always such a pet peeve of mine not to include the AIAW title in 1981. Worse than mln59 ‘s use of irregardlessly. Barely.

my assumption is JE and staff would only go after Launstein if Devin (or someone else) has given reason for them to need another OPP Lauenstein is visiting Texas this week or next week, with an intention of a January enrollment date. Visiting 2 other schools as well. Is Whitney visiting from a source or just speculation because of the Instagram follows?

Is Whitney visiting from a source or just speculation because of the Instagram follows? It’s from a poster on the thread who claims to know. The follows came after the post, which would seem to be a sort of verification.
