Is Whitney visiting from a source or just speculation because of the Instagram follows? It’s from a poster on the thread who claims to know. The follows came after the post, which would seem to be a sort of verification. That’s interesting. She did like two comments on her Instagram about coming to Texas and ignored everyone else’s comments. So this is confirmation that Texas is definitely her top choice. And I know she’s close with Kayla Caffey so I’m sure Kayla and Akana are very convincing for her.

I will never understand the Kahahawai over Byrd/Lauenstein. I was rooting for her so bad but idk if it’s just the lack of match play with Swindle or the connection but everytime she comes in for Jenna, she gets subbed right back out. Her best match was against Ohio State when she had 6 kills in one set and then didn’t have anymore kills after that. She played 3 sets against LMU and had 6 kills hitting .125, she played in 4 sets against Washington State and hit .111 with 6 kills. 3 sets against Kansas with 6 kills hitting .278%. And 3 sets against TCU with 7 kills hitting .190. She’s hitting .153% for the year. I do like the hype she brings from the bench and the fire. I think she is our current YBG. If Lauenstein doesn’t come then I’d like to see Byrd on the floor. My belief in Devin is based on what I've seen of the various players discussed along this subject:
1. Molly - 4 years as starter, 1 year as backup 2. Devin - 2 years as backup 3. Jenna - 3/4 season as starter 4. [mythical] Whitney - a few YouTube highlight videos 5. [to be redshirted] Jordyn - just warmups
I can't judge [mythical] Whitney, so I can only compare Devin against Molly, Jenna, and Jordyn And really, should I compare her against Molly since she'll be gone next year?
So it's: Devin vs. Jenna vs. Jordyn (warmups) vs. YouTube
JE always harps on "if you could see what we see in practice" as the reason he plays or holds back a player.
As a true freshmen, he saw enough of Devin in practice to give her "closing time" in games. But that goes both ways and not enough to give her starting time.
I go with what I've seen in game time as a Longhorn player - Devin.
it's also interesting because coming into pre-season training je said devin & jenna had made the most improvement

She was #2 before. I don’t think the top 5 has changed.

it's also interesting because coming into pre-season training je said devin & jenna had made the most improvement sometimes coaches just talk to talk. wenaas has very slightly improved her offensive production and her passing has declined quite a bit since she was at Minnesota. honestly, id prefer her level of play at Minnesota than what she's doing at texas. Same way John cook was saying Orr made these massive strides and was neck and neck with bergen in the spring - that just wasn't true

Same way cook was saying Orr made these massive strides and was neck and neck with bergen in the spring - that just wasn't true I never buy those kinds of comments as being meant literally. Elliott is constantly pushing public praise about players that’s meant to hype them up as much anything. It’s not a bad thing. Far from it. But it’s not the gospel truth, that’s for sure. While Wenaas’s passing has gone down, I do think at least some of it - in fact, IMO a large part of it - is due to how limited her playing time is compared to Minnesota. Most of the time she’s only playing 3 rotations - sometimes 4. She had a bigger role in serve receive than she does at Texas. It doesn’t make you wrong, but it’s also not an apples to apples comparison. I liked how she was used at Minnesota better, too, but I always had significant questions as to whether Texas was going to use her in a similar way, which always made me less of a fan of bringing her onboard in the first place.
