I know a lot of people are buzzing about Lauenstein as a potential 2024 transfer, but I think after this season there could be some huge transfers up for grabs. If we’re looking at opposites, it’d be interesting to see if veteran players like Londot, Rutherford, or Lewis (Oregon) enter the portal for their final year, or the contrary, a youngin’ like Kennedy Martin could surprisingly enter the portal (given Florida’s string of bad luck this season). Who would JE go for? I’d prefer any of these players actively playing this season over Lauenstein.
Also, given how loaded we are now and will be in 2025 (#1 recruiting class), would we want a player that back logs the roster even further for that single OPP position, or do we go for a veteran player with 1 year eligibility left to round out the 2024 team? If the latter, Londot, Rutherford, or Lewis would be better than Lauenstein. With the addition of Ames, securing a proven opposite would be huge for Texas in 2024.
Like many posters have said, I do think Kahahawai will transfer out after this season, so there will be at least one spot (possibly more) open.

When it comes to "hoping" certain players will enter the transfer portal in December in hopes they will come to Texas, I guess there's no harm in that. Is it realistic? That's a different discussion.
I think the tea leaves are staring us all in the face as far as the mutual interest between Whitney Lauenstein and Texas:
- Begins to follow 2024 Ayden Ames on Instagram (and vice versa) immediately after Ames verbally commits to Texas
- Begins to follow new Texas assistant coach Cursty Le Roux on Instagram (and vice versa)
- Poster(s) stating that will most likely make her (first official?) visit to Texas this coming weekend
Obviously, nothing is a given until the visit occurs, and perhaps she takes other visits, as well. But, I doubt she takes a lot of visits as her personal life is not the same as that of your typical high school recruit or collegiate transfer who wants to "enjoy" the recruiting process and drag things out simply for weekend getaway fun.

Ayden Ames probably already signed her LOI . . . I remember signing day has sparked various, ummmmm.....intense debates on VT - namely, if you're signing an LOI, you must be getting a scholarship.
I know for a fact that sometimes athletes have already sent in their LOI or even signed it when they visited weeks prior and they do a symbolic "signing" a the gym with the other athletes for their school because it's a cool way to be recognized. And, they're signing a blank piece of paper, often.
I got started looking into this phenomenon when Jhenna Gabriel "signed" with Texas.
1. She was a walkon 2. Walkons don't sign LOI because there are no financial ties to the university 3. It was at her house, but it had the white table cloth on the table, there she was with a pen and paper wearing a white dress and wearing a Haku (lei for the head)
That sparked a lot of, "She must be on scholarship. You don't sign a piece of paper for no reason!"
Hmmmm, this might spark some intense responses, now that I think about it.

Confirm me folks, the Fall 2024 volleyball season will be the last year for non-redshirt COVID bonus seniors, right?

So idk how true the Whitney visiting Texas this week is but from a source, she can’t visit until she enters the portal and that starts December 3rd That’s not how things work. First of all, the portal doesn’t open and shut down on a certain date. It’s actually always active. The new windows (they were only implemented last year - the portal itself is only a few years old) allow for a waiver. If an undergrad enters the portal during the designated times they’re allowed a one time waiver where they do not have to sit out a season if they transfer. They can play right away. Waivers are granted for other reasons. If a player has already earned a degree they can transfer without sitting out a season. If their coach’s job status changes they can transfer without sitting out a season. If the NCAA grants a hardship waiver they can transfer without sitting out for a season. The NCAA used to hand out hardship waivers like candy on Halloween, but they’ve announced they’re not going to do that any more. Because Lauenstein officially withdrew from Nebraska, is no longer on scholarship, she also doesn’t have the same restrictions regarding visiting other schools that a scholarship player would. She can visit wherever she wants. That’s why a player like Morgan O’Brien was able to attend Texas, come out for practices, and eventually play for Texas while in grad school. She had to enter the portal right before she became a part of the team, but she was actually already enrolled at Texas by then. That’s why Jhenna Gabriel was able to become a volunteer coach at UNLV under Dawn Sullivan, and eventually became their starting setter. She eventually entered the portal to become part of the UNLV team, but that was after she had already been on campus for quite a while. Same thing with Lauenstein. She can visit campuses all she likes, but before she can be a part of a team she’ll enroll in the portal to make it official. But by then she’ll have made her decision and it will be simply a matter of following a procedure. None of this is to declare Lauenstein is for sure visiting Texas or when that will occur. I do believe Lauenstein is visiting Texas. IMO she’ll end up committing to come to Texas. Texas just doesn’t lose a lot of these. There are too many advantages compared to other programs. Texas will have an extremely compelling sales pitch to offer Lauenstein. But we’ll see. What I will say is that the December 3 date will have no bearing on her recruitment. She’s not a scholarship player. She’s not going to have to sit out a year regardless. Therefore the portal windows have no application to her. We can be on Whit-watch during the Cincinnati match this weekend.

(LOL, like it's up to me) She's super hot-and-cold. Luckily we've played her so much she's a known quantity to the coaching staff. Rutherford, on the other hand. . . Not sure if Martin would enter the portal. She seems happy at Florida, the team was firing on all cylinders before Stucky's injury. Sophie Fischer is also on my wish list
