This is a good time to remember Molly Phillips coming back during Christmas break to show Madisen Skinner around campus when Skinner was just giving Elliott a courtesy visit. Ugh I want to know what Molly showed Madi during that visit that made her change her mind??? She was DEAD SET on no Texas…we have some persuasive people in the program. Have you seen Jerritt’s wife? From her interviews - and we’re never going to get the full story, nor are we entitled to it - she didn’t want to come back to the state of Texas like her sister did. She was looking to go somewhere else. Elliott’s first sales job was simply getting her on a visit to simply take a look around and see what Texas had to offer. She grew up in a VERY strong Baylor household in an area dominated by Aggies. She wouldn’t even have to be anti Texas. Just mildly prejudiced with preconceived notions and not really aware of the resources available. From what she’s said that’s what shocked her the most. She was blown away by how much more Texas had to offer in the way of resources and support than she anticipated. You can tell how much she’s loved her experience. There has never been a question in her mind she was coming back for her Covid year. We’re very blessed to have her as fans of the team. She’s obviously remarkable on the court - the best player in the country - but she’s an incredible spokesperson. I’m blown away with her level of professionalism in interviews - as long as you’re not asking her about Swindle’s improvement over the course of the year, that is.

I guess I’d say if Gabriel had been 6’3 Texas would be 2021 national champions (spring). That’s not fair to Kentucky because they were an amazing team, but I think Gabriel was actually really good. She was just 5’6 and really good. Kentucky absolutely abused her on the front row. I also think SKT was an elite college setter. The goal is to win national championships. Not the smoothest setter award. I guess all I’m trying to say is that Texas needs a setter that is elite enough to be recognized as a First team AA. When was the last time we had that? We had the same issue at libero for the longest time until Fleck. I think Halter has potential to be a 1st team AA hopefully by her Junior or Senior year, so JE has made progress there but not so much for our setters..yet. Swindle is great and holding up fine, and like an earlier poster said, with the pins we recruit we don’t necessarily need the flashiest or best setter, but I sure would love one that has the capability to be first team. You say Texas "needs" an elite 1st-team All-American Setter... but their sitting on back-to-back National Championships with SKT and Swindle. So, do they actually need one?

What on earth did she say when asked about Swindle's improvement that wasn't professional? It’s a joke. She misunderstood the question and went on and on about her personal improvement over the course of the season. As a viewer who understands what the reporter was really asking it’s funny/awkward. You didn’t see that? I don’t mean anything mean spirited. I’m just making a joke.

This based on who's out of eligibility before anybody hits the Portal...
Portal-wise, you have Halter and Akana at L/DS, you lose Barnes and Heinrich and add in Emerick and Ramirez. I'd probably expect Texas to look for a DS in the Portal as a 1-year rental like Barnes to set the floor for that spot.
At MB, you have Singletary and Bunton, you lose O'Neal and Bergmark, but add in top-recruit Ames. I'd expect Texas to maybe look for a 4th body there or find someone if one of those players clearly isn't ready for 2024.
You don't lose any of you OH, so you probably only bring someone in to replace someone you lose.
At OPP, you have Tomkinson and lose Phillips. Texas probably definitely looks for someone here, unless they plan on moving someone else there.
At S, you have Swindle and Crownover and bring in Binney. Swindle played hurt all year because Crownover was the only other option. I have no idea if Binney would be ready to step up as a consistent backup. So they'd probably look for a steady to set the floor behind Swindle.
That means the Portal needs are one DS and one OPP, with mild wants at MB and S for experienced backups to flesh out the position. Then, obviously, I'm sure they'd go after any can't-miss upgrades, all-american types. If someone's in the Portal that's definitively better than your current starter, you go get them. Though there probably won't be many of those.

From your lips to God’s ears….. that would be some insane pin depth in ‘25 and ‘26.

Yeah, she actually came up on the Instagram account a couple of weeks ago. BUT. What we REALLY want to know is, is Reilly the only Longhorn in the database? (Other than Molly for beach)
