wait, so is there really a cap of 18 players on the roster starting next year? we have 20 now we lose 5 seniors we signed 5 2025s so that leaves us with having to boot two players...? 😬 if so, i think Miller deserves to start at another program. lowkey i could see her joining Crownover at Mizzou 😙 are Illif and Vernon both graduating? i think Helmers has a great shot at being the 6 ro we need so i hope she stays... her and Bunton seem glued together so if one stays, i bet the other will too. that leaves us with.... Tomkinson?? not sure how high her ceiling is, but that position seems to be quite occupied for the next couple years Let's get real - there will be transfers out. Byrd has to be considering it, probably also Bunton and maybe Tomkinson too. If not, and we need to boot two players, it's going to come from walk-ons first

the question regarding transfers in would just be, do you think 3+ of this group leaves? Miller Tomkinson Byrd Helmers Bunton Swindle I guess you could add Binney and Ramirez but I just kinda doubt they leave after one season, and neither seem like the type we’d push out either. both walked on originally and Binney has already been used some. I didn’t think Ramirez looked far behind Emerick at all either (in fact, she looked far better than Emerick in middle back). of those 6, i think ella is the least likely to leave

Ramirez I don't think Ella is leaving, also don't think Helmers is either

If Carlson remains the starting setter for the rest of the regular season and post-season, I can see Swindle having to make some tough decisions in the offseason. I don't see the in-state Carlson leaving as she is a junior, and most likely wants to earn her undergraduate degree from Texas. Swindle is a sophomore (who enrolled a semester early) who will be half-way towards completing her undergraduate degree.

I’m not sure she’s even a lock to start in 2026 Well, I'm not ready to speculate that far in advance. Swindle performed well last post-season; so, she has the skills to play at a high level. Maybe she doesn't have the consistency; maybe it's more about playing relaxed and finding that mental strength on the court; I don't think it's a lack of confidence on her part.

I get it, just think it’ll play a factor in her decision. it’s not secret Harris is the #1 setter in that class. it would be a huge risk on Ella’s part to stay if Carlson finishes the season in this 5-1 as you alluded to earlier. there’s a world where she doesn’t start again which is… crazy to think about in a dream world, Swindle plays up to her potential and we start her in 2026 and redshirt Harris before giving her the reigns for four years (kinda like what Minnesota is doing with Shaffmaster and Swenson this season).

Elliot just needs to "close his legs to the transfer portal" ( hornshouse23) and start developing younger talent.

Do we think Ella would redshirt next year if Carlson continues to start exclusively in a 5-1?

Ive said this once, and ill say it again, girls will go to texas regardless of playing time, its the premeire team in volleyball right now, facility, school etc. Only stanford can match them, and not everyone is going there
But constantly using the portal will rub some on the team the wrong way, and I think elliot needs to be extremely careful on how he uses it.

Folks acting like transfers are something new. While the portal is new as of October 2018, and the rules regarding instant eligibility and multiple transfers allowed per player have continued to evolve, players have been leaving one school for another for decades. Some had head coaches who wouldn't give them full releases, so some had to sit out a year at their new school.
Getting transfers like Ebony Nwanebu and Paulina Prieto-Cerame way before the portal was created shows the value in a coaching staff being open to incoming transfers.
