Elliot just needs to "close his legs to the transfer portal" ( hornshouse23 ) and start developing younger talent. But, you still want to win every match with no growing pains, right? Eh, losing builds character.

Ive said this once, and ill say it again, girls will go to texas regardless of playing time, its the premeire team in volleyball right now, facility, school etc. Only stanford can match them, and not everyone is going there But constantly using the portal will rub some on the team the wrong way, and I think elliot needs to be extremely careful on how he uses it. as “bad” as this sounds, why would he care what backups think if he’s actively recruiting over them lol the portal is why texas won in 2022 (well, so easily. they obviously were in the race without it) and 2023

I just think he has to be a little more careful, but he obviously gets paid the money he does for a reason. Hes producing results

I think Texas lost Flynn to Nebraska for that exact reason and we’ve probably lost a couple more. but we’ve gotten all of our needs. for example, we didn’t need too much in the 2026 class, so we just focused on getting the best and proceeded to land the #1 pin, setter, and libero (although I don’t think cugino will hold onto that spot imo)

Well, I'm not ready to speculate that far in advance. Swindle performed well last post-season; so, she has the skills to play at a high level. Maybe she doesn't have the consistency; maybe it's more about playing relaxed and finding that mental strength on the court; I don't think it's a lack of confidence on her part. I get it, just think it’ll play a factor in her decision. it’s not secret Harris is the #1 setter in that class. it would be a huge risk on Ella’s part to stay if Carlson finishes the season in this 5-1 as you alluded to earlier. there’s a world where she doesn’t start again which is… crazy to think about in a dream world, Swindle plays up to her potential and we start her in 2026 and redshirt Harris before giving her the reigns for four years (kinda like what Minnesota is doing with Shaffmaster and Swenson this season). I've learned my lesson not to assume that one or two subjective recruiting services are correct with their player rankings; I will wait until I see setters play in college before believing a true freshman will unseat a senior. Recruiting services had Ashley Shook as a Top 3 setter in her class; and Ella Swindle as Top 2 setter in her class. And, maybe Carlson as a Top 2 setter in her class.

Both Nebraska and Texas signed a highly-ranked setter in their 2024 classes back in November 2023. 2025 Flynn committed to Nebraska in summer 2023 before seeing Reilly or Swindle play in college; believe she signed her LOI yesterday. Most likely, she will redshirt one season and/or be second on the depth chart for 1-2 seasons at Nebraska until Reilly moves on. Or, she will decide like Caroline Jurevicius did that she doesn't want to sit on the bench for two seasons and instead find a school where she can play prior to her third year in college.

I’m more than happy with Harris and don’t think anyone is losing sleep.

That's kind of funny considering it was Nebraska who brought in Tennessee junior setter transfer Mary Pollmiller and "recruited over" incoming freshman, Kelly Hunter. Pollmiller ended up being the starter in 2013 and 2014, IIRC.

wait, so is there really a cap of 18 players on the roster starting next year? we have 20 now we lose 5 seniors we signed 5 2025s so that leaves us with having to boot two players...? 😬 if so, i think Miller deserves to start at another program. lowkey i could see her joining Crownover at Mizzou 😙 are Illif and Vernon both graduating? i think Helmers has a great shot at being the 6 ro we need so i hope she stays... her and Bunton seem glued together so if one stays, i bet the other will too. that leaves us with.... Tomkinson?? not sure how high her ceiling is, but that position seems to be quite occupied for the next couple years So far, only Vander Wal, Spears, and Harvey have "signed" as per official statements/tweets from Texas. We'll see if Krueger and/or Gaido actually sign; if they don't, perhaps it's because they were guaranteed NIL in place of a scholarship. Callie Krueger looks to have had a signing ceremony at her high school yesterday; but, nothing from Texas yet about her signing. Walk-on, Kenna Miller is in her third year at Texas; if she's close to earning her undergraduate degree from Texas, she'll probably stick around until she completes it. If she doesn't graduate before the start of the 2025 season when the 18-player roster maximum goes in to effect, then that could have an impact on her decision.

Just in case folks missed it a couple of weeks ago, the SEC did not approve a scholarship increase for conference football programs from 85 to 105 annually starting in 2025; so, it might not be until 2026. What does that mean for other sports like volleyball? I don't know. We will still have to adhere to the 18-player roster maximium starting next season. But, we may still be under the 12 scholarship limit.
