Just for reference on public commitments, last year we had Kruger commit on June 15, and AVW commit on June 16. Then Gaido announced on June 28th, while Spears (Oct 4th) and Harvey (Jan 4th) waited much longer to decide. Texas has shown the flexibility to both push for commits early and use patience depending on the athlete.

We probably only need a OH, Setter, and DS, right?

We probably only need a OH, Setter, and DS, right? probably a 3-4 person class but rule changes and roster caps could change things. Portal will always be an option at Texas too.

The one thing I like is that volleyball commits usually keep their initial commitments all the way from June('24)->November('24)->November('25) when they sign, for their graduation year ('26!).
But I'm reminded that we have had two superstars that initially committed elsewhere and then switched to Texas? Help my memory here. I think Asjia and......Chiaka?
Anyone got group memory "the one that got away" who committed to Texas and then didn't sign? And no, we're not counting Sun.
Added: And Ayden Ames!

Not really what I’m referring to when I say Texas uses patience on players who want to wait. She made an extremely early decision, which is fine, but she is in the first category of players.

If Nebraska is fairly certain someone like Henley is going to Texas and gives her a 24 hour deadline to commit, I don’t see anything wrong with that. Creating a sense of urgency is sales 101.

Flynn committing the day after recruiting communication is allowed does not fall into that category.

She made an extremely early decision, which is fine, but she is in the first category of players. she was given a deadline by Texas I have no reason to doubt you, but it’s not like Flynn drew out the process. It’s a tad difficult to feel real critical about the Texas approach if you’re correct. It sounds like they read the room pretty well, and weren’t excited about a drawn out recruiting process they were underwater on from the beginning. I know they thought they had a real good shot at her coming out of the elite camp. She chose Nebraska instead. But it’s not like she chose Nebraska in November. She chose them almost as soon as the contact period opened up. Tough to show patience when the commitment comes on the 16th.

Do we think Harvey or AVW have a chance to make the U21 team as 17 year olds?

I honestly feel like Cook actively dislikes long recruiting cycles. I’m not saying he won’t recruit a player over a longer period, because he obviously does, but he seems to do everything he can to get recruiting done as early as possible. Both Texas and Nebraska have the luxury of being the first choice for a lot of players, which gives both head coaches a little more flexibility in how to handle the recruiting process than other places.

I don’t think I’m as much of a fan. My preference would be a longer recruiting cycle, and more players changing their mind throughout the process. Not for the drama, which I don’t care about, but because I feel like volleyball recruiting is often on railroad tracks. Maybe it’s the best for the girls, I don’t know. But my preference would be they take visits, make sure they know where they want to go, then make the decision. Compared to football and men’s basketball, even Taylor Harvey and Spears had quick recruitments, but in volleyball terms they were drawn out.
