Are the mostly California university officials going to ruin Volleyball for the Big West??? It comes down to testing. Atm BW schools don't have enough of it to practice WVB safely.

From what I have heard recently,...testing runs between $100-$200. (There are free public testing sites in LA,...my understanding). Insurance companies will pay for tests if a patient shows symptoms (doc.'s request) (All SA's should carry some form of health insurance (mandatory) to pay for a test.) The BWC should make arrangements to have testing given---group rates! (i.e. ten tests during the season @ $100 per = $1000/SA.) Just a guess total cost $15,000-$20,000 per team.

Basketball is getting testing priority over WVB in the BWC currently. Funds are indeed the issue.

Realize many schools in the BWC are operating on a very tight athletic budget,...i.e. UCR.
So understandably COVID testing for a minor team sport has a low priority. Which is really too bad,...both for the coaches/players.
If,...the cost for testing does become the "straw that breaks the camel", maybe time all coaches/employees of those respective athletic dept. help by taking a cut in pay!!!
Isn't why they have a job in the first place?

Why can't the Big West do the same, it falls under the safety of the students and staff? www.staradvertiser.com/2020/09/25/sports/sports-breaking/mountain-west-conference-to-pay-for-football-coronavirus-testing/

The cost of testing will continue to decrease and hopefully something gets worked out to enable all teams in the BW to practice. But since jake seems interested, as of last week, there are multiple BW WVB teams that aren't practicing due to lack of testing, while the basketball programs (whose season is now before WVB) are practicing. As I said months ago, for the BW Covid is a $$$ issue, not just a health issue.

Sure CAL POLY Athletics would've posted something if they made cuts. U of U only school I know that has acted (reducing employees' salary) across the board to cut costs. Just don't see the BWC offering to pay for COVID testing. They are just not motivated enough or too cheap or both...sad state!!!

I guess they want to be basketball centric, with a sprinkling of baseball and softball. The truth is, volleyball is one of the most popular sports for girls played in High School, and women's beach volleyball is currently the fastest rising women's sport in the NCAA. The next emerging NCAA sport is likely men's beach volleyball. If they (Big West Conference) were smart, and I believe they are, as they represent a lot of Big West programs known for excellent academics within its universities, they would provide all the PPE needed to jump-start athletics just to give our students something positive and enjoyable during this awful situation. Hopefully, they will reconsider. I know Hawai'i has worked closely with both the state and city & county governments to bring back sports. Maybe the Big West commissioner can reach out to the government officials and business sponsors to help with funding.

My wife and her cousin are flying out on Southwest Wed for a little vacation. Requiring a COVID Test 72 hours prior,...she found a clinic testing for no charge. When I get more details will post.

Cal Poly hires a volunteer assistant coach?
I thought hire means to work for payment and volunteer means to work payment free.
Maybe Cal Poly doesn't have money for Covid testing because they pay volunteers who were willing to work for free. LOL
