Your pessimism is enlightening bwf2! Right now the BWConference is playing a delaying game, IMO. The hope is a vaccine will be developed in time,...testing won't even be a factor. I also believe by the spring testing (should it become necessary) will be very easy and extremely less costly. That should make at least 50% of the schools in the BWC competing. There is already discussion on a test with results in 20 minutes. Of course, these scenarios will not ONLY apply to WVB, but, all sports! Because all college sports will probably be played in the spring. I am convinced this is what will happen,...! I heard the NBA and Yale are working together to produce a new Covid-19 saliva based test. Compared to the swabbing of the nasal cavity molecular test that can take a week to get results and cost $100 this new test if successful will get results in hours and be cheap like $10.

Hey jake I also heard Isabella Martinez, a 5-9 hitter from Chaminade High School committed to Cal Poly for 2022-23. Maybe a beach recruit?

I appreciate your optimism Jake! One note of caution though, is that there are those in every community that like sports taking a back seat. You'll find them on and off campus. Attempts to return sports to normal will be met with their resistance and all kinds of hyperventilating. All of it masked as virtuous attempts to save money and protect public health. They'll be heard, and their concerns addressed. I'm not sure it will be a quick process and I see a future where higher operating costs and lower or non-existent ticket sales drives some schools already on the margin into a sports ditch they don't climb back out of for quite a while, if ever.

They already have a cheap ($1-2/test) saliva based test but I don't think the FDA has approved it yet. But it should!
Right now, the FDA wants the tests to be more accurate. This article discusses that plus similar tests. (Most are still being developed.)

Yes,...indeed!!! and thanks.
When I was tested they first put a swab down your throat and than in the nostril. Very simple and almost painless.
This is the beginning. Not exactly self administered, but, close.
We will probably see a FDA approved vaccine within the next 90-120 days.

The virus causes blood clotting in the lungs. And, using a respirator was not the answer. Not a medical person, but, a lot has been learned about the virus that may become essential to finding a vaccine.

It's still unclear what postponing fall sports until the spring has done to current coaches and players.

It's still unclear what postponing fall sports until the spring has done to current coaches and players. CAL POLY Athletics has announced no shut down to any sport's programs since the start of the "mask wearing" era. POLY's AD, Mr. Don Oberhelman, who has been rather successful screwing up the hiring of several head coaches since his hire over seven years ago,... is still laying low. According to the university's calendar school for 2020 will begin on time. www.catalog.calpoly.edu/academiccalendar/

Since classes do not start for another 3-4 weeks. Quite sure all VB practices are being conducted on a voluntary basis. Nevertheless, everyone is biting at the bit to start playing a true opponent!!!
