I wouldn't be surprised if there were some scrimmages among BW teams in the spring. The coaches want to give the players something to look forward to. It always seems to come down to $$$! Is the BWC directors suspending Fall Sports in order to save member schools $$$? Since nothing has been said about cancelling Spring Sports this seems very possible. In any case, member schools should be given the option to participate in the season as an "independent" or as an "associate member" of another participating conference. Is the directors decision all about $$$ Saving member schools $$$ and saving face for their athletic dept.'s!!! Not a fan of XCountry or Soccer,...but love WVB. Hopefully, Mr. Oberhelman, CAL POLY's AD, will do all he can to give the three outstanding seniors a season. (YES,...they do have an extra season)

It's a logical reason and one that I am sure most athletic directors, who are in panic mode,...welcome. Especially due to huge budget constraints!!!

What are the other West coast conferences,...WCC, Mountain West, WAC & Pac12 doing about their Fall Sports? Three of those conferences have already released their schedules/plans. The PAC-12 has not released any information, but rumors say they are going on a conference only schedule. Only the Ivy and Big West, as conferences, have cancelled.

I no longer see the point of there being a Big West Conference. It's a failed organization that is not only uncompetitive, it's non-competitive. Where sports go to die.

Zero excitement over that announcement. The BWC cancelled fall sports for lack of resources. Period. End. Stop. The only significant revenue generator they have is men's basketball. Likely none of their basketball teams have enough talent and coaching to go beyond round one of the NCAA tournament.
The Ivy League can cancel and kids will still want to go to Ivy League schools. They can restart their small time athletic programs in a year and be little the worse off.
The Big West schools athletic programs that were cancelled, some and probably many will be lucky to still have any talent remaining in their programs in a year. Kids and their parents will see the big BWC fail, and talent will leave to where it has a home to play. New recruits will steer away.
We know the fall sport cancellations won't do a thing to help the BWC programs that were already on life support. By cancelling, in effect it put many BWC programs on the chopping block for possible permanent cancellation. The BWC was failing prior to cancellation. But with that action, the BWC threw in the towel. What's left of it is pitiful.

Correct me if I am wrong,...but, you sound like a a dye-hard UH fan that wished the wahine never joined the Big West Conference in the first place!!! ...or what??? CAL POLY and UH should arrange to play each other in a home/away contest in the spring (if nothing changes). Playing two matches (four total) home/away for Big West bragging rights. And, any other BWC school that wishes to participate.

The two schools should announce they are behind it and picking dates. Likely there will be a response from other schools that would like to join. And, why not? It would be an enjoyable stick in the eye to the laggards and BWC maladministration. And those programs that participated would stand a chance of turning things around for their school programs. The best programs will have fan and fundraising support, and there is a very good chance that they'd get a TV contract to cover it.

Schools in the BW are exploring the possibility of doing some spring scrimmages but that would necessitate keeping the athletes on campus through spring. It is obviously cheaper to send them home so, again, it will be a $$$ decision.

If,...the home/away series between CAL POLY and UH comes to fruition it will need to played with all the proper officiating and rules. Just like any conference match would be played. It most likely would be advertised as a match between two independents,...and, not as a BWC match.

At this point, probably more than a few would celebrate removing them.
