I don't think there was a widespread expectation that Bruna was going to start this year. Jacqueline Quade and Beth Prince were the incumbents on the left pin and Megan Cooney on the right, all starters returning from a Final Four team. Bruna's season was very much impacted by injuries, both hers and those of her teammates. She was unavailable the first two games of the season against Tennessee and finally drew into the lineup in the fourth game, against Colorado. Beth Prince got injured, I think in that Colorado game and was out for a while. Bruna played in eight consecutive matches, then got injured and wasn't available for the next eight matches. She was back available from the home game against Michigan but didn't see the court for the rest of the season. By the time Bruna got healthy again, Mica Allison had established herself as a viable opposite and Cooney was continuing to develop as the second OH. Prince got healthy enough to draw into the lineup at times toward the tail-end of the season and was higher up on the depth chart than Bruna. With Quade and Prince graduating and only Cooney and Allison returning as the other pins who saw the court last year, there's opportunity this season for Bruna to compete for playing time with our freshman pins and Emily Hollowell. Her experience playing six rotations over in Europe could give her a leg up slotting into that vacancy left by Quade's departure. We're all looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out, if and when the season happens! Gotcha. Thank you! You're welcome!

Maybe it was good thing our season got pushed. I dont think we would have been ready within a short few weeks. New libero, a young middle, and a young OH, it would have been a lot of adjustments and figuring out who will be where.

Has there been any indication about rules for practicing and coaching contacts during what is now the off-season?

You had us nervous there, brucks! Congrats to Caroline on grad school and playing some club ball! Maybe college club teams are allowed to play this semester?

Durham U. is across the pond (England) so I'm not sure what their protocol is for playing during the pandemic. Caroline's purpose for attending that program is academic. The volleyball is secondary.

Former player Naya Crittenden shares Illinois memories about the people who influenced her when she was at the U of I. Short article appeared in this morning's News-Gazette
NAYA CRITTENDEN (’18)
Broadcast journalism major and volleyball outside hitter led Swiss League in scoring this past season
“Professor Leon Dash taught me so much about Black history within journalism, and more specifically about the importance of telling stories about the lives of people of color that often go unreported.
“Professor John Paul sparked my passion in journalism my first semester at Illinois, bringing wonderful speakers in to give us great advice, and making me realize that I made the right choice for my field of study.
“Professor Janice Collins led by example with passion and heart, giving insight on the steps to success, and showing me that anything is possible as a woman, an athlete and a journalist.
“And former coach Kevin Hambly accepted me as the person and player that I am, inspiring me to continue my journey in professional volleyball.”

I play in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) League myself out of Scotland but it encompasses the whole UK. As of Friday August 7, BUCS was holding off on any competition until 2021. They are allowing full training as long as they fall within the government mandated protocols. The volleyball that she'll be playing will be far less competitive than anything I've ever witnessed in even D3. She will be a super star over there for sure! I can almost guarantee her purpose for going there will be academic!

Hey everyone some insight into U of I's Corona Virus policy. All students are getting tested twice a week and have to show negative tests results to enter any University building/facilities. They bars/restaurants are even requiring it. There is an app on the phones which has the test results they need to show. Glad U of I is keeping students safe
