Raina Terry and Maddie Whittington are prepvolleyball.com HS All-Americans. Brooke Mosher is High Honorable Mention. They have Terry listed at 6'4" now. We could have a high flying banger on the outside for the next 4 years. It's going to be a dogfight on the outside to see who starts. If Holzman comes back healthy, Terry, Bruna if she gets over her foot injury and gets back into her Italian league form, Holliwell, she's got the height for sure. We are going to take our lumps next year but I'm looking forward to a year or two down the road when these players mature.

With libero Morgan Obrien choosing to bypass her final year of eligibility, "rebuilding year" becomes an even more appropriate description for next season's Illini.

I always found it intriguing to see Morgan O'Brien serve with her right hand, but do her fist-bump celebrations with her left. Anyone know if she is a natural left-hander, or ambidextrous? In any event, I will miss watching her play.

Might this be the face of the Illini libero next season?

To answer a recruiting question. - Next years class has 3 signed. Brooke Mosher out of Wisconsin. She's a Micha Hancock type of player, setting, hitting out fo the front row, serving. She will be our new setter and will redshirt her freshman year. 5'11" out of Wisconsin and easily one of the top 3 players in the state for her class. Sarah Bingham 6'3" MB/RS out of KC Power - and Caroline Barnes - 5'10" L/DS out of Benet Academy in IL. Could be another Kuper situation if she can pass and hit out off the back row. No other recruits listed as the new rules have taken effect.

Happy (belated) birthday, Madi! Madi exhibits contagious spirit on and off the floor. With Carolyn Welsh and Morgan Obrien no longer in the backrow, might Madi see mucho playing time next season?

The rules are intended to slow down the early recruiting. They didn’t really affect 2021s, but definitely are making things interesting for 2022s many of whom are kind of caught in the middle since they had already started talking to coaches and getting interest and then it all stopped on 5/1/2019.

I'm not sure who is on scholarship and who isn't, but I put an asterisk by those players that I believe are on scholarship. My guess is that we'll want at least one (likely two) middle hitters in 2022 and one OH. This assumes everyone remains health and there are no transfers (in or out). Apologies in advance in case I've missed anyone.
2019 Diana Brown*, 6’1”, S (Ohio) Kyla Swanson*, 6’3”, MB (Nebraska) Rylee Hinton*, 6’2” MB (Illinois) Alyssa Eske, 5’3” L (Wisconsin) Kennedy Collins*, 6’3” MH (Illinois) Madison Chi, 5’8”, DS (California) Bruna Vrankovic*, 6’1”, OH (Croatia)
2020 Maddie Whittington*, 6’3” OPP/MH (Minnesota) Ellie Holzman*, 6’2” OH (Louisiana) Raina Terry8, 6’2” OH (Ohio) Sophie Gregus, 6’0” OH (Illinois)
2021 Brooke Mosher*, 5’11” S (Wisconsin) Caroline Barnes, 5’8”, L (Illinois) Sarah Bingham*, 6’3”, MH (Kansas)

Here's another perspective by position. My guess is Whittington will move to the right side, so I've placed her there.
Setters Diana Brown (Senior) Brooke Mosher (Sophomore)
Outside Hitters Bruna Vrankovic (Senior) Ellie Holzman (Junior) Raina Terry (Junior) Sophie Gergus (Junior)
Middle Hitters Kyla Swanson (Senior) Rylee Hinton (Senior) Kennedy Collins (Senior) Sarah Bingham (Sophomore)
Opposite Maddie Whittington (Junior)
Defensive Specialists Alyssa Eske (Senior) Madison Chi (Senior Caroline Barnes (Sophomore)

Allison will not be here in 2022 - I was responding to the post about 2022 recruits and I provided a snapshot of our 2022 roster.
