I hate that the offseason is sooo long. Hopefully it will be exciting, aka we get good players transferring in.

This may be way too early to be asking this, but does anyone know when spring training starts?

Normally in the weight room not too long after returning for the spring then usually some teams hit the gym in February. Not totally sure.
Looked at some film of Merkler playing OH. I do wonder if we dont get a good OH transfer in the spring if she takes the other spot beside Austin. Merkler is a terminator and did very well in serve receive and defense when she played all around.

So... question for discussion. Is Carolina a desirable volleyball destination or a stepping stone for high caliber players to use as a showcase in order to transfer to more elite programs? In the past few years... 2017 ---- Sydnye Fields - Texas A&M (ultimately quit this season) Taylor Borup - Oregon Holly Carlton - Florida 2018 ---- Ava Bell - Tennessee 2019 ---- Lauren Harrison - Baylor I didn't include Scoles as that was a medical-based transfer to play beach... Thoughts?

I wouldnt say bell going to Tennessee is a more elite program....they did worse than us this year. And Bell saw reduced playing time. I think Borup and Carlton were more a response to the program was changing and they wanted an intact program. I think Carolina needs to recruit harder and get back to a stable culture.
All of these girls were recruited by Eve.....so none have a connection to Susan or Mike plus no one wants to play for Susan. If she is that way as an assistant, how is she on the recruiting trail?

We are the Coastal Carolina of ACC volleyball.
Best player has left every year for the last three years. One year the four best players.
What should be the standard for UNC Women's sports teams: soccer (multiple national championships). field hockey (national championship), lacrosse (national championship), tennis (NCAA runnerup), basketball (after coaching change of long time coach - undefeated).
in 30 years UNC volleyball has never won an NCAA championship nor made a final four - not once.

I think Baylor being #1 for half the season and currently in the sweet 16 match qualifies as the National stage even if they lose to Purdue. This is a huge get for Baylor to bring in a terminator that can reduce some attempts for Pressley. Good luck to Harrison. When I said sustained success, I meant for more than half a season. They were still swept badly by Texas this year. Not hating on them as I like Pressley a lot and have no issues with Baylor VB, but I thought a team with more years of success under their belt would have been chosen by her. And I want Harrison to do well wherever she goes because she is a great player and person. They lost one game all year, to Texas then beat that same Texas team the next time they met. I don't see how this doesn't qualify as sustained success.

But yes Baylor is doing well this year and is trending in the right direction and they have a vision Lauren wants to be part of. Anyway, like I said I hope she does well for Baylor.

Looking at the roster and seeing how van Der Mark is coming around they have some legs for the next couple of years. Thanks for the exchange

Not to mention Borup missed all of this year with an injury. Hopefully she doesn't have to go the route of Fields and be forced to quit the game, but you never know.

Thoughts? I don't think any of these players came to Carolina thinking they were going to build up their stock and then leave, nor do I think any future commits plan on this. They don't always know how the future rosters of other "desirable" schools will shake out because transfers happen all the time. They could wind up "stuck" here, or be forced transfer to a not as elite institution if they actually dislike Carolina. I just think the last few seasons it's been a string of unfortunate circumstances for our program. The girls who left just happened to be talented enough to attract the eyes of top programs (not too sure about UT, but it's still too soon to tell with Eve's tenure). Prior to 2017, I can't even think of anyone really talented we've had prematurely leave the team other than Cameron Van Noy in 2012. Hopefully building upon all the positives from this season can help the team going forward.

Okay..Baylor is good this year...have a lot of good pieces the next few years....I am happy for them...back to UNC
We still have really good pieces, we have to find another great peice to soften the blow of losing Harrison. I do not think that these top players have been using UNC as a stepping stone. I think as bluemagic stated, these players know they are good and when circumstances such as coaching or a let down season happen, they go somewhere they know they can play. If we can ever get a stable season, I think UNC can take back off. AS of right now, I wish we had Shaffmaster coming in this fall....but we need someone until she gets here.
I also am hoping Mitrovich gets to start this fall, because setting is really hurting us.
