So who liberos this season? 😈
Not necessarily the end of season starter, but who are the options?
I don’t really follow many of the players socials so I don’t know what the level of training has been for each girl. I know Igiede follows probably the best trainer in Florida lol but I doubt she’s going all the way out their to train, especially now.

But they also return all of the outsides that had good ball control, so they might do the 6-2 again where setters sub for middles and there is no libero. I’m guessing the former instead of the latter.

Robyn: "A lot of new kids coming in" She's teasing us, no specific info. Are there surprise recruits for 2020? Well....4 scholarship players are “a lot”. We could land a couple of walk on L/DS but 4 make up about 1/3 of the available scholarships; Mylana Byrd...Kate Lang...Anna Kiraly and Siena Springborn. I don’t think we have any more scholarship left unless the coaches yank one away from one of the player. I would be shocked of Springborn is on an athletic schollie. Pretty sure she is a walk on.

I was really hoping we would get a solid libero transfer but it appears not. So it looks like Hanawahine or maybe even Riley. Riley's ball controll is pretty good especially her serve receive.

True, but I feel like she wouldn’t have seen as much playing time had Jolie not gotten injured.

I feel like Ross was instrumental in saving Hawaii's season when JR went down. She finished the season as the best passer on the roster and terminated at 35.1% (which was only marginally lower than BVS). She was underrated imo. I liked the 6-2 but JR's injury forced the system change because Wagoner wasn't terminating and, without another bail out hitter, UH would get stuck with her in the front row.

Van Sickle/Tiffany/Riley/Akana the x-factors - because most teams will not be double/triple blocking them. The middles are the horsepower. They will give you a steady/high percentage offense and hopefully net defense that will intimidate. Backrow will be solid. Setters are unknown but Robyn is one of the best setter/coaches around.

Does anyone know if Hawaii is going by the Phase Protocols? I would imagine if they’re in small groups Robyn will be getting a long of focused time with Byrd and I would imagine whoever the emergency setter is (is BVS on the islands?)

No offense to Springborn, but I doubt she is on a volleyball scholarship. If you look closely her announcement shows that she is "committed" rather than "signed" like the other 2020 recruits. I don't know if she ever achieved All-American or a Top 100 ranking in HS.
This brings me back to the idea that Robyn might be holding a scholarship for a transfer or foreign recruit. Still scratching my head at K. Akana to Nebraska news
Libero/DS seems to be between Wagoner and Hanawahine. Was more impressed with Wagoner's numbers last year
The Byrd front row and Kate back row 6-2 combo sounds good right now

I think setter consistency is gonna be key next year, idk how much Robyn is gonna mess around with setting time if she feels like one or the other is going to be her best option. Glad she set up a good Jr/Fr combo that should stick unless UH randomly gets a top setting recruit that’s outside of that frame. I’ve never seen K. Akana play. Is she even that elite of a prep defender or just a local favorite? Because I thought Knuckles was an absolute stud for a freshman and heard they have another quality DS. I have no idea where Akana thinks she fits in to a program known for desire 6 rotation pins, unless she’s got Annika Albrecht potential as a DS. Anyone can understand the USC decommit but idk if she’s a fit for the Nebraska environment outside of the gym. Would be great if she came back if she’s that type of a backrow player.

The Byrd front row and Kate back row 6-2 combo sounds good right now How would that work as a 6-2? Who subs in for who? Probably meant more of a 5-2. Some just call it a 6-2. I'm pretty certain Karch calls it a modified 6-2.

Akana in highschool was money. 6ft quick lateral explosive movement at the net. She can hit from all positions and floor defense is exceptional. Like Van Sickle and Riley, Akana has that all around prototype game and build. She like the other non-starters need game-time experience to build D. 1 confidence. These group of players is exceptional at their positions. From what I saw with the transfers and the new recruits last season, they came in ready to contribute and had that take no prisoners mentality. It should be a fun mix of competition and team building to get to the big dance this season. If they buy into the "One Team, One Goal" mentality, they will be tough to beat.
