Tayli is maybe in the 5’4” - 5’6” area height wise - from a spectator’s perspective. Although she is fast, I don’t think Robyn will turn her into a setter. Why? She is such a fantastic ball handler and she’s quick in the back row. That is not necessarily easy to find. Tayli probably could even be an attacking DS. Her volleyball knowledge/sense is just too phenomenal in the outside hitter areas of: passing, defending, attacking If she wanted to transform a player into a setter, then maybe she should have tried Akana - she has pretty good hands .... but I don’t see that happening.

I see Tayli as a very good libero prospect.

Is it possible that Robyn wants to turn Tayli into a setter? I mean, Tayli is listed as 5-8 which would be the same height as Robyn and Faith Ma’afala. She is athletic and smart enough to become a setter like Robyn herself. She can do what Brett Sheward did with the men’s team. Come in the first year as a backrow player and then move over to setter her second year. That way, when Byrd graduates, UH will have two “experienced” setters on the team. UH have a history of converting high school OHs into pretty good setters. Robyn, Dani Mafua, and Tehani Miyashiro...... just to name a few. Sheward actually came in as a setting recruit but I want to say the men’s team was pretty lacking in DS’s before this most recent season.

DS isn't really a position you'll see on a roster in the men's game. But it was nice to see players like Choy and Suzumoto get some playing time in the back row as DS.

Well, finally got my 2020 Season Tickets renewal in the mail. I’m happy that UH is moving ahead with plans for its 2020 season. Unlike in years past, the schedule is not included in the renewal form but that’s understandable as everything is up in the air at this point. Hawaii has done a good job managing the Covid-19 crisis. We have the lowest numbers in the country and just had our 3rd straight day with no new Covid-19 cases. I am hopeful that by August, things will be even better.

Is it true the State of Hawaii has a 14-day quarantine policy for all visitors? If so, the out of state Wahines (e.g., Rasmussen, Wagoner, Hellvig, Van Sickle, Igiede, Westerberg, Byrd) should take that into account before flying over to Honolulu.

They are looking at other avenues to eliminate the 14-day quarantine so they can open the tourist industry again. Hopefully they'll have these new procedures in place by July.

The State is looking at a “Travel With Aloha” initiative, which proposes all those who want to travel to Hawai‘i receive a rapid turnaround test for COVID-19 before flying. If they test negative, they could be exempted from the stipulations of the mandatory, 14-day travel quarantine.

If they test negative, they could be exempted from the stipulations of the mandatory, 14-day travel quarantine. I think they should make it a rapid one, once arriving at the airport. I know that’s hard for Hawaii but it’s the best way. Who knows if the contract it at the airport, on the place, etc.

I don’t think any of the athletes will have to quarantine unless they test positive. My guess is they will get tested before boarding and get tested after they arrived. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get tested multiple times a week to make sure they are virus free.
Kind of humbug but that is the only way to go at this time with no vaccine available. It only take a few minutes for the test so there shouldn’t any problem. Temperature check daily will probably be the norm.

Didn't really learn anything new except that Hawaii has a Fall 2020 preseason schedule and no one has cancelled. However, Ah Mow basically said to almost all the questions that she doesn't know anything. Obviously, there are many things she knows but is not allowed to divulge to the public yet. But at face value, she basically said she didn't know anything re. 14-day quarantine, when season will start, when her players will be back in the gym, if there will be spectators in the stands, etc.

My takeway from the interview with Robyn, wondering if her daughter will eventually be the next Robyn Ah Mow setter type, a so called gym rat, like her mom.

Robyn: "A lot of new kids coming in" She's teasing us, no specific info. Are there surprise recruits for 2020?

Robyn: "A lot of new kids coming in" She's teasing us, no specific info. Are there surprise recruits for 2020? Well....4 scholarship players are “a lot”. We could land a couple of walk on L/DS but 4 make up about 1/3 of the available scholarships; Mylana Byrd...Kate Lang...Anna Kiraly and Siena Springborn. I don’t think we have any more scholarship left unless the coaches yank one away from one of the player.
