Any chance Meyer plays next season? I am going to say yes there is a chance. Id fall over stunned if she did. But would be grateful if she did and if there was an improvement in that position. Callie just doesnt make an impact out there.

I wonder if running a 6-2 ever dabbled into Cook's mind this season I mean probably but he doesn't like a 6-2 so he probably shut it down pretty quick it's probably not feasible with a RS like Szabo but seeing Hames get bullied on the block is frustrating. and its not like Hames is setting the slide well anyways

Meyer is too raw in her volleyball skills right now. She’s redshirting.

Honestly this was a pretty impressive season IMO. Foecke did so much for the team a year ago and the libero play by Maloney was huge. That's a lot to lose and this team finished #2 in the B1G and competed for a spot in the Final Four. I thought overall we saw some massive improvement from both Sun/Sweet compared to a year ago, plus steadily improved play for Kubik over the year. Wisconsin just had Nebraska'a number and played 3 outstanding games against the Huskers...not a lot you can do when they're bigger and more experienced at almost every position.
Looking ahead to next year, I think there are a lot of areas for improvement if they want to make it to Omaha. First, the passing HAS to get better. Strong finish by Knuckles but man, the Densberger/Miller combo really killed the Huskers in game 1 and hasn't been steady for the entire season. Sun is a streaky back there too, although much improved from a year ago. Same with Kubik. I think they'll improve more with another off season but this has to be the focus in the off season.
Neither outside is a tank in the mold of a Plummer, Foecke, Rettke or Bajema. They both are really really good though at hitting high hands and picking out shots. The biggest issue with their hitting against good teams, IMO, is that it's almost always out of system and they're facing a double block. This stems from passing/setting, but they just need more opportunities to hit against 1 blocker or at least where there's a hole in the block. Also, I hope they continue to utilize backrow attacks, especially from Sun. Kubik did a good job out of the pipe but I though Sun looked more comfortable ripping the bic and was much better this year about not taping. Utilizing backrow attacks will create more one on one opportunities too rather than out letting high balls to the pins every time.
The middle connection with Stivrins was just off for a lot of the season, particularly against good teams. In 9 matches against top 16 seeds, she only hit a combined .278. Blocking was okay but a little down compared to a year ago. Hope the connection improves there. Callie too, I did not think she improved from a year ago in really any area besides hitting a slide. She was injured which affected her game, but blocking wasn't as strong and the offensive part of her game still has a ways to go.
Sweet I thought played a LOT better this season. Much more terminal on the left and did really well finding the floor on out of system sets. I hope Cook gives her a shot to play 6 rotations, or at least help with passing if she plays well. The few times I saw her pass I thought she did a solid job, although it has been a very small sample size.
Hames is a really solid all around volleyball player but her setting IMO just isn't elite. She did not have the best passers to work with this year, but just her overall location, decision making and predictability was not strong. A good setter finds a way to put her hitters in a great position to score, and it felt like all season long it was high balls to the pins, or a weird connection with Stivrins that Lauren struggled adjusting to. Hames definitely has the quickness, bump setting and overall feel for the game to get the job done but I think she has a lot to work on in the off season. Especially connecting with her middles.
Overall though, I think this was a solid year for the Huskers considering how valuable both Foecke and Maloney were to the Huskers. Congrats on a very solid year even if it ended a weekend earlier than in recent years.

Thoughts, musings, and half truths...
Overall, a really good tournament from a young team. Let’s face it - there are many great teams and many great players out there. That is why we all love this game! If you had told me after the preseason that this team would make the Elite 8 I would have gladly taken it.
Good news - Kubik played better and better as the season progressed. She’s already very good and is going to be great. Knuckles really improved and played very well against Wisc the last match (especially after being abused on serve receive at Wisc last time). She going to be special. Sun was also vastly better her second year. She won’t carry the whole team like a Foecke, but I don’t worry at all about her. Jazz really picked up her hitting (I’m not sure why she disappeared against Wisc.).
Bad news - Stivrins is a tremendous talent and is an amazing slide hitter. However, her blocking and hitting in front of the setter needs to improve. Also, she did seem to play worse latter in the season. Callie needs drastic improvement. Her blocking was suspect all year with poor movement and decision making. And I understand she was injured, but her hitting was just awful. Really bad news - DS is a complete train wreck. Miller and Densberger...yikes! Hames is the ultimate competitor, an outstanding defensive player, and a fantastic bump setter. Unfortunately, she is not a good setter. Also, she is a huge liability in the front row. Basically, every team goes after her blocking. She seems to be entrenched as a captain and leader. Let’s hope that she grows.
BTW - Prediction - Stanford vs. Wisc. in the final. Stanford wins it all again.

And the middles had zero impact on this match.

Are Lauren and Lashes going to be captains again? i feel like today showed that maybe they aren’t ready to be captains which is okay. lexi was the only one fired up so i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a little switcharoo next season

lexi only hit negative once (-0.21 against Iowa) sweet only hit negative once (-.063 against Michigan) stivrins never hit negative callie hit negative three times (i’m too lazy to write them) kubik never hit negative hames hit negative four times
that’s pretty good for a young team, especially sweet and sun improving a lot
