What does everyone think about UGA this year? I’m a huge Tom Black fan and he’s really built the program into something special In only a few years. Amber Stivrins will definitely help!

I think they have a great mix of leadership and rising talent. With Evans,Stivrans and Ritchie swinging and the addition of Awoleye in the middle this could be a much different season for them. If they can fortify the back row this year (which made huge strides last year) They will make a move in the SEC. I project they will end up in the top 3rd if not make a run for the top in the SEC. To take things a bit further, it is exciting that UGA is starting to keep the in state talent they have. Overwhelmingly, in the past most of the talent from the club scene leaves the state. With a recent top tier transfer in Stivrens coming in, all of a sudden UGA looks like a better place to compete in the future. That is how you build a program. Especially with this pandemic, I think the future could be very bright for the Dawgs.

I didn’t watch much UGA volleyball, but if I recall correctly, those three you mentioned were all left sides?

Yes, Mallory Hernandez will probably be the main stay on the right but Kayla House, Froemming and Londyn Gray should all compete for playing time. If UGA wants to take the program to the next level, the right side will be important for them to go far.

But my guess is Hernandez (former OH) or Rivera will man the RS when being offensive. When looking for more defense/blocking House/Awoleye/etc could be used. Their biggest challenge last year was blocking. If that improves a move into the top 3 could happen. Without it they may struggle to maintain top 5. Offense should be better, passing even with loss of lib should be strong, setting turns over to experienced leader with 6-2 options as well...it all comes down to blocking and getting some touches defensively. I think it will happen. Stivrens is a huge addition!!!

I'm biased, but I think the loss of Glover is going to hurt UGA. No doubt losing that experience will hurt especially early on. Glover was an excellent passer and server. Defense/digs was average. Biased or not, you are correct...she will be missed. It seems they are positioned well to fill that hole, gap left at setter & upgrade offensively. I just hope we get to see it! Losing one AZ girl but gain another hopefully works out!!

Anyone hear any idea of what the SEC is thinking? I know Big10 said conference only and I am hearing Pac-12 will most likely do the same.

Think Aug 1 is when coaching can begin. So here’s an interesting tidbit— it’s my understanding (from experience and from reading article 17 of the NCAA bylaws) that the first day of official preseason practice with coaches is dictated by counting backwards from the first scheduled competition (usually resulting in an official report date around aug 9-10 for most schools). However, if the preseason matches are canceled and they go conference only, I assume that means they can’t start official practices til later too...

Heard SEC meets Monday, so hopefully some clarity then!

Knowing schedules could be in flux, especially in the non-conference, they passed this waiver for this year. "Council members also granted a waiver to modifying the start date for preseason practice in sports other than football. Fall preseasons generally begin a specific number of days prior to the first scheduled regular season contest. The waiver allows teams to count back from the first day contests are allowed, instead of a team’s actual scheduled first contest." www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-extends-recruiting-dead-period-all-sports
