I would be content with live feed matches. Interesting what impact that would have on HCA.

This is BAD look for Alvarez and Wisconsin To cheap to pay for 35 spring athletes to come back in 2021. From article: Alvarez said the NCAA action impacted around 35 Badgers seniors. UW has 10 spring sports: softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's rowing and women's lightweight rowing. Not that bad. Somebody had to go first and it is best an old school guy with gravitas like Alvarez, who can take the hit, did it. A lot of schools are grateful that someone started down this road so they can follow. Next spring is a long way away and his "overreaction" comment makes sense to a lot of people. The full list of unintended consequences is not even close to figured out. Better to go this route and eliminate one problem, so they can deal with all the other problems that are sure to come up.

I. Cannot. Fathom. This. Right. Now. I do wonder how this would work for those players. In theory, 3 of those names would still have redshirts available. That is probably also true of spring sports, but who knows how they choose to go forward with that. It wouldn't surprise me that, if they cancel, fall sports will be treated a bit differently. Whether someone like Rettke would come back for a 5th season (if possible) rather than go pro is a different question. Rettke is now in a position to finish her senior year at Wisconsin AND compete for an Olympic roster spot without worrying about any other commitments if the world gets control of this pandemic before the summer. That was not true two months ago and she had to make a choice. I know "gift" really isn't the right word here, but this really has the potential to be a very big opportunity for her. I can't see her coming back after her first pro season and a full Olympic summer with the national team.

This article only addresses the Spring athletes. What I like about the announcement is that it focuses on the goal of getting your degree, with sports being a means to support that goal. I’m not sure there is an easy answer to dealing with the issue of Freshmen committed to come in next year vs the possibility of keeping the senior class around an additional year.... Being up-front and transparent has its benefits I suppose. I wonder if there is a way for the Golf, Tennis, Track, Rowing & Softball athletes involved to keep the extra year of eligibility and pursue their sport as a graduate transfer if they desire?

I can't see her coming back after her first pro season and a full Olympic summer with the national team. If she plays a pro season then she can't come back. At least, not competitively. She could come back and finish a degree if she hasn't by that time. But, if the 2020 season is canceled, I think there are a lot of questions to be answered as to her (and others) eligibility. And, if there is a change in approach through the UW for 2020-21 athletes (Doubtful), then the question would become what she wants to do personally. She can train for the national/Olympic team and still return to Wisconsin. Once she goes pro, she's gone.

June seems so far away and boredom is here without Spring season—are there any 2022s that are high on the Badgers? Feel free to PM if that’s more appropriate.

No talk on the Punzel article yet? It really is the offseason. Though, as I am trapped in my house (as many of you are as well) I just assumed people would be living on here. I have become obsessive. I can only read so many books. Anyway, intrigued by the comment about being on recruiting trips in Greece, Louisville and Kansas City. Mostly intrigued by the Greece trip. Not that I have any idea who in Louisville or KC he would be looking at either. Louisville trip could’ve have been for the current kiva 15s team. Kiva has produced some big stage talent (hammons, Gregory, McClendon, and more) most recently deber and radar in the 2020 class. I’m from Louisville and pretty familiar with the talent here. Other than radar and debeer, who are already committed elsewhere, the only talent capable of playing at wisco would be 3 girls off that 15s team. Sydney helmers 6’3 OH is very mobile and has a good swing from both pins. Nya bunton, 6’4 MB, is fast and has great hops, she training on the outside too but I think she’s best suited for middle. And Kenzie maloneys younger sister, Mia, is a very good libero for her age. Kiva coaches have said that Mia is better as a 14 year old than Kenzie was at that age. Bunton will be the most coveted out of those three, I could see her going top 5 senior ace. Helmers capable of top 10 and Maloney is great too. I think all top programs would want any of the 3.

I'm guessing they were in Louisville for Bluegrass. They don't have any known 2022 commits and they were definitely on 16s courts at Bluegrass.

Didn't see anyone post this interview with Hilley.

What's fun about that interview is that Hilley claims she wishes she had more study time as a students athlete under normal conditions, because she likes her subject so much. But now, it's a little much, and her mother has to step and curtail her time with the books.
I'm always surprised when at the level of surprise in people's voices and expressions when they hear what she wants to do with her life. To me it seems perfectly sensible if a bit difficult.
