My only quibble...saying it was unfulfilled. I disagree. Yeah, I don't know how you can see a trip to the NC match as unfulfilling. Maybe it was the showing in the final he's talking about. Stanford played very well, and may have been unbeatable with Plummer (as long as Hentz could cover her in serve receive), but the badgers have definitely played better. Still, how can you be unfulfilled with a trip to the NC and a B1G title? Still hungry, maybe. Not entirely satisfied, sure. But unfulfilled is too far.

Unfulfilled is too strong.
I say that because it erases all their other amazing accomplishments.

That article also has Sheff mentioning a possible transfer. Huh.
My read is probably just that if the right player comes along, he’d be open to it, but we’re not in a position where we actively need to seek a transfer to plug a hole on the roster.
I’m surprised we’re not adding a walk-on DS for next year. Though I suppose Kraft counts.

Do we know if Gregorski,Gorum McDonald and Ashburn all on scholarship? They all signed in the early signing period last year, which makes me think they are on full scholarships. Somebody mentioned Gregorski being a walk-on.

I’ll be shocked if Robinson isn’t on the court next year. Either at middle or right, especially since she’s joining this spring.

Also, would love Sophie Fischer to join the Badgers. Highly doubt she will, but she’s a baller.

She was named MVP of her side, only playing one set and only one rotation through the front in the 3rd. Sat out the second.

Did Fischer decommit from somewhere?

Did Fischer decommit from somewhere? UNC. Lots of noise on their thread indicates coaching issues. May have not been her reason for decommiting but I bet it was somewhat of a factor.

I posted over on the Cal Poly sand thread about Whalen, and liked what I heard : >>>Anyone have any thoughts on Mariah Whalen's roster chances? I was bummed her Badger indoor career was curtailed but am happy she caught on here for beach--maybe hope to see her, streaming or live sometime. Mariah is great player and she will definitely play huge role ,in upcoming season , for CP. With ES & TVW almost certain to play 1 and 2, she'll probably compete with AVW for 3. It only took me two weeks to recover from the loss. Kidding.
Onwards and upwards and apologies if I'm re-stating what many of you have. First, so proud of what the 2019 Badgers did. Late in the season, you could see that they truly believed in themselves and the team that they had formed around them. In the last match, not a single set of slumped shoulders or lack of fire in the eyes until that last ball hit the floor.
We return so many pieces, it's hard to imagine the badgers NOT making another run of things like they did. Emotively, the key will be in acculturating the newcomers to the starting rotation. Volleyball-wise, our back row was so clearly important to how our team succeeded this year, that I don't see it being an easy path. That and of course our offense continuing an upward trajectory and not backsliding.
Position wise...
OPP: I have seen almost nothing of our new recruits aside from Robinson and from what I've seen, #14 seems almost criminally low. She seems ready to contribute from day 1. Do we see a try for a three-middle that lasts longer than one set? It would hopefully mean we don't have as many growing pains from losing Duello's block. At the same time, I could see a redshirt happening for her seeing as how Rettke and Hart appear fully ensconced in being an actual middle. Unfortunately, I just don't see Wohlert being the answer here. I could see Shanahan, Gorum, or Demps slotting in at opposite. I wonder if the ACL has hampered Gorum's approach variety making middle a more challenging position. I just don't know how well balanced their blocking and attacking are and which the coaches would prioritize. This is easily the most interesting position to look at and imagine for my brain. I think we still sub Ashburn in to serve and defend. Her serve is just too valuable.
Setter: Hilley. Duh. I would assume that Hammill redshirts behind Hilley and Ashburn.
MB: We seem pretty set here. Biggest question will be how much Robinson pushes Hart and Rettke.
OH: Also an interesting position, though only mildly in terms of front row. Major question seems to be how much Demps will push for time on the left. Haggerty ended up having a great season. Loberg slowed her B1G production a bit moving into the tournament, but I still really like her on the left. This could easily be more of a personal investment than a skill commitment. The bigger questions for me is if they get subbed out. As I watch more international volleyball, the more I like the idea of six-rotation outside hitters. It clearly wasn't our path to winning this year, but it's not like Loberg or Haggerty are slouches in serve receive or floor defense. My guess is that one of the two gets subbed out. When both of them were 6-ro last year, the eye test told me Loberg was a little more stable in both defense and serve receive. That said, it's no secret that Haggerty wants a solid international career, and you don't get that as an OH if you aren't versed in passing. We'll see what the off-season does for their overall development. This entire projection could be thrown out the window if Demps can own the position. I don't know how ready Gregorski will be physically to compete front row in the B1G. Kraft could be a dark horse on the left, but I don't think the chances are great. Playing beach, my assumption is her court vision would be stellar and holding shots to the last possible moment could be there, but who knows. Not confident that a beach player will be a banger in the B1G after spending that much time away.
L: Would be shocked if the jersey wasn't transitioned to Barnes. Love her floor tenacity. Would have liked her a little more stable in serve-receive, but I think she's the one.
DS: Goodness gracious there's a lot to unpack here, that I started a little bit above. We have people here, just not a ton of experience. I still think Ashburn gets her serving rotation. MacDonald seems like the next DS and possibly heir to the L jersey when Barnes graduates. The limited amount of time she saw when Hilley's nose was bleeding was quite good. Whitehead always seems to warm-up well. Borrowing from the OH conversation, I wonder if Gregorski or Kraft slot in as a defensive substitution. No idea how good their passing or defense is good. What I see from Gregorski is that she seems to be a joyful sparkplug for the team, which you kind of want from your L/DSs. From video I looked up, it appears as though Kraft was mainly a front player for the beach crew. I would guess and hope that she gets some of the same defense training, but I don't know how much of the situation and hitter reading will be there the same way as if she were a back player. She probably isn't as well versed in the controlled digs of the big swings.
In some combo of what I think will happen and what I want to see happen, which is increasingly difficult for me to discern...
S: Hilley Opp: Demps (Ashburn back row sub) OH: Haggerty OH: Loberg (MacDonald back row sub) MB: Rettke MB: Hart L: Barnes

I really think we will see Robinson on the right. Her block is huge. Demps is he heir apparent as the OH1. she could possibly redshirt to save her eligibility as a four-year starter.
