I'm with Badgerbill and Rainbow. I think Robinson is on the right. Her national team experience will put her a step ahead, and from what I saw in the AAU game she is ahead of most other top players in her class. Granted, we didn't get to see Demps, and we haven't seem Gorum who has much longer with the team. I gather she is graduating early and will join the team this spring. I can't remember, is that true of Demps too? Or Hammill?
Will be interesting if we get to see Wohlert as a blocking sub. I also expect a simpler pass receive pattern with at least one of the OHs playing around. Will be interesting to see who picks up Clark's service rotation. She was awesome at key moments last year.

Robinson. National freshman of the year. Called it

Really looking forward to seeing how Robinson and Gorum slot in this spring.

One question I was never sure of the answer to was whether Gorum was ever healthy enough to train/practice this season. Being in the program for a year has a lot of value even if you do not play. But, much more if you are in the gym every day getting better. Especially for someone who has been described as supremely athletic, but really raw. Was it an ACL injury or some other more minor knee injury?
Duello really struggled early with injuries, and probably was limited longer than we realized. I dont expect any of the candidates to match Duello as an all-american as a junior straight out of the gate, but if you could get that position humming again...yikes. Look out.

I think Robinson is going to be a star. The only hesitance I have with her on the right is that our experiments with the three-middle offense haven't worked. Last year first set of Nebraska at WI and the early part of this season when duello was out. Granted, in each case, no trio had the ceiling that the Rettke-Hart-Robinson trio could have. Passing has to be good for this to click. I won't be mad if my line-up is wrong. Whatever gets Ws is fine by me.
Gorum was out with an ACL tear. She started participating in warmups veeeeeeeeeeery late into the season. Gregorski, Gorum, and Dodd referred to themselves as the Bees Knees.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it was a full tear for Gorum. More of a clean-out according to Sheff on Point Wisconsin, Ep 50 I think.

I remember reading/hearing that Dodd designated herself as the role model for these injured freshman, using her senior leadership to help Gregorski and Gorum through their rehab and to make the most of their redshirt seasons. It can be super isolating when you can’t practice or play, and even more so if you’re a freshman - you’re missing out on those formative experiences that integrate you into the team. I might even go so far as to say that Dodd’s injury was somewhat of a blessing in disguise: it gave her a unique opportunity to shore up the future of the program by making sure these freshmen had an optimal first year experience despite their ACLs.

As for Robinson, I 100% believe that she’s coming in early to make sure she’s ready to go on the right.
I’m honestly more concerned about the backcourt. Barnes will slot in well for Clark, but who slots in for Barnes? Kraft? Anna Mac? IDK.

Barnes will slot in well for Clark, but who slots in for Barnes? Do you know the difference in passing grade this year between Clark and Barnes?

If the back row doesn't step up, I'm not sure how much a good offense can cover up shaky floor defense and passing.

I think this is "We convert Robinson to an opp." Maybe even work on her back row.

Do you know the difference in passing grade this year between Clark and Barnes? I do not. OK, well here are the numbers in case you're interested. Clark passed a 2.23 on the season (3 point scale). That's good. Basically 2.20 is the cut off mark for a Libero. If they're below that, you're going to see issues. Barnes passed a 2.07. That gap is a big one. Add to that the loss of ME Dodge (who passed 2.13) and I wouldn't be as confident that Barnes can adequately fill in for Clark.

I really think we will see Robinson on the right. Her block is huge. Demps is he heir apparent as the OH1. she could possibly redshirt to save her eligibility as a four-year starter. I'm sort of torn on this. OTOH, I would agree, to get 4 years out of her. OTOH, given the tremendous losses in offense after 2020, part of my says it would be useful to get some PT to prepare for 2021. It's all about the philosophy of the here and now versus development for the future.
