2-18 in sets won in the B1G. And those 2 sets were against a team that just lost to Rutgers in 4. Certainly not many positives. Shaky setting & being terrible at first contact makes it difficult to be competitive. That 13th place preseason prediction might unfortunately be accurate. |

We have only had this poor of a start twice in the last decade. The last time our coach was fired mid season. BUT, the time before that we then went 8-6 for the remainder of B1G and had a massive upward trajectory for the next couple of seasons! |

I like how the Hawks compete until the end but obviously they are a work in progress.
October 21 is the halfway mark in Big 10 play.
Let’s see if they make progress down the stretch.

I went into this season, after spring, hopeful after seeing that the Hawks appeared stronger at the net--all pin hitters better and middle at least equal to last year's team. I think all of our concerns centered around passing first, and consistent setting second. Those concerns have plagued the Hawks. They play hard, seem to enjoy each other and the staff, but have lapses at the worst times in the areas above. Let's hope some consistency develops. With their second half schedule, if they continue to improve, they are destined to win matches.

Maybe they catch PSU looking ahead to Nebraska on Saturday. A split is badly needed. I would expect a DS to be utilized more for Moravec. Will be interested to see what the line-up looks like Friday.

Besides Illinois, MSU is the first match in this string where you think, okay this one definitely could swing our way. It does feel like we’re “due” that any given day match around this point. |
