Any updates on what may have happened with Maddy Hanson? I don't think she is even on the sidelines, right? And looked like Black, Lombardi and Worden all were not dressed for last night's match. Add in Buettner apparently being "nicked up" and yikes.  I thought Hanson was on the bench last night. Not sure what happened but she's been out a while. |

How long will this Barnes experiment continue?
He’s attempting to play in the B1G with AAC players-probably not gonna work out well. ‘24 recruits are not good, where is this going?
The B1G will be much tougher a year from now.

They had to dump most of roster for major issues and had to deal with ncaa sanctions. It’s a complete rebuild. Except it was never even built in the first place. Bond won 2 Big 10 matches in his 2nd season. And they weren’t coming off all these issues. It’s not a job for the faint of heart. Disagree 100%. Bond didn’t have the portal. It’s still a great university, in the premier volleyball conference, with the best national television exposure, located within a 250 mile radius of most of the best recruits in the country. What Barnes has done in two years is firmly establish Iowa as unquestionably the worst volleyball program in the conference. Iowa is even behind Michigan and their part time coach. I don’t see a path up… time to cut losses and find a B1G head coach-what you have now is not one. This should be a great job… 🏐Sorry |

I think with the incoming recruits that we’ll see some differences. They will be young with not a lot of experiences but we have to start somewhere.
2024 S/OPP Jenna Meitzler
2024 DS/Lib Jaimie Marquardt
2024 OH Dominique Phills
2024 OH Kamaluhia Garcia
2024 OPP Gia McGrew
It’s sucks to see Buttner leave cause she definitely could have been a franchise player for the Hawkeyes if she was on board longer than one year. I kind of hope Ortega goes on to play somewhere else just cause to have a different level of gameplay and experience. Morevec has a lot of great potential and I really hope that Worden bounces back next year cause she had some impressive gameplay before tearing her ACL.

Concerning the 24's, Meitzler and Garcia will be needed to play big roles. Relying on two freshman to make a significant impact against what the other teams in the conference can put on the floor doesn't seem like a recipe for success. Phills will definitely need time to develop & Marquardt will as well. Worden is a wildcard. She passed well at the black & gold scrimmage but did not have any lift when jumping. I would imagine the portal is going to be a tough sell. 4-16 last year and 0-12 so far. Who's going to want to sign up for that? |

They have only won 5 of the past 38 sets… where’s the progress? The ‘24 class is … I just don’t see much ready-made help on the way for next fall, and that leaves the portal… why would someone with B1G talent pick Iowa/Barnes over the scores of teams who will be calling such talent. I am just not sure he gets where the talent level in this league is-a rising level when the 4 PAC12 schools join the fun in 9 months. I hope it works out… 🏐 |

Point being, IMO, you tend to see things half-empty, a bit pessimistic. Nothing wrong with that, but it would be a mistake for IA to fire Ruhle after this season. The only exception would be if they had an experienced, established coach in hand as a replacement. Someone that could bring recruits in with them, but that is very unlikely, and not possible if IA has committed their scholarships thru 2024, which I highly expect they have. Does Ruhle need to grow a bit to meet B1G challenges? I suspect he does. Is he capable of that? Again I suspect he is based on his previous coaching success. Competitive, intelligent people adopt. Give him some time. |

Maybe they should look for some international talent to bolster the roster for the time being. Seems to be working for countless other programs and would give some time to attract higher level domestic talent.
