Just want to tell the Hawkeye fans that this was an impressive effort. Both against Minn and Nebraska. There is no give up in the team. Watching teams handle defeat and how they respond to it says a lot about a program. I’m an Iowa fan. I was surprised how well they competed. Serve receive was better than usual & blocking/touches were as well. What they're going through mentally, has to be difficult |

Also, found this to be an interesting quote in article in The Daily Iowan that spotlighted the recent volleyball Senior Day:
"Ortega couldn’t hold in her emotions after her Hawkeye volleyball career was celebrated.
“It’s been a long four years. But it’s also been the fastest four years of my life,” Ortega said. “I just have so much love for Iowa and for these girls, and I can’t believe that I’m a senior. It’s just a whole lot of emotions pouring out of me right now.”
Ortega will have a big decision to make as she has a fifth year of eligibility remaining."
Hmmm about the the "big decision to make," as it sure seems/seemed as though she had made her decision to not return for 2024 season. Guess we shall see.
Regardless, her overall contributions to the program during a tumultuous time are definitely undeniable. A true Hawkeye for sure.

One more match to go. How many hit the portal? I'm guessing at least 3 leave. Off-season should be interesting. Barnes has to be feeling some pressure likely going 0-20. Let's say they improve to 4-16 next year which would put him at 8-52 in conference over 3 years...will that be enough to get another year?

Barring another 0 win conference season, I can’t see anyway he doesn’t get 4 or 5 years for sure. Even another winless conference and I think he gets more than 3 years.

With all the transfers out after last season, and likely more to come after this season, its indicative on how the players feel about them as a staff and Jim as a coach. Going 4-16 your first year and 0-20 your second year with a team he built himself is not a pretty sight, especially for hawk fans. It is a tough conference, but with the additions, it will only get more competitive from here. I can count on my hand how many conference games could have been won this year and none of them were pulled off. Time will tell for sure. |

Ortega is in the transfer portal—probably a mutual decision. I would guess that decision was made a while ago as she went through Senior Day. Great ambassador for the school, program, & always positive on the court but they do need to upgrade from this level of player if they ever want to move up. |

Claire Ammerral—setter Central Michigan—is in the portal and being followed by Iowa VB. I was impressed with her when we played them. I told my daughter she would look good in black and gold during the match. You never know.

Guessing Meitzler would not get a full 4 years. Also, I would expect at least 2 libero/ds types as Cole and Dennis are not likely to be back. I would say there are 4 possibilities for backrow help so far. Cautiously holding out hope for an athletic pin & middle as well. |
